The making of

Afraid of Monsters

2 days of shooting, 8 days of editing, covering 4 years of work - The making of Afraid of Monsters is finally here!

It's been a long time developing Afraid of Monsters, and it has been released in two different versions; Afraid of Monsters and Afraid of Monsters: Director's Cut. Many people has played it, and it has got a fairly good score around the internet and magazines. But has anyone wondered how it's been made, who has made it, and for how long it's been developed? If anyone of you have those questions, then I'm glad to tell you that those questions are now answered in a 43 minutes long video, showing all about the Afraid of Monsters universe!

This video is also educational and it can teach you pretty much if you are new to modding, about how complex and how much time you have to be ready to spend on a mod, and what modding can teach you and so on.

And if you have just found out about this mod, I recommend that you play it before you watch this video, as it's very spoilish!

Anyway, here's the video, I hope you'll like it. Enjoy!
/Andreas Rönnberg

If you liked this mod, then you should check out our upcoming mod Cry of Fear, which is also a Half-Life total conversion. This time, our team is bigger and more professional, and we have made the Half-Life engine look like Source. Check it out here on ModDB, or on our official website:

Awesome video, very educational. You strike up some interesting points about scare tactics and realism vs immersion. AoM is one of my favorite HL mods. Still skeptical about Cry of Fear, but I will reserve judgment for when I get to play it. :)

Love what your team is doing with the engine and bringing the Jacob's Ladder/Silent Hill esque vein of story telling back into the modern media of modding.

Christ! My favorite modder working for my favorite video game company? What a happy ending. People from Sweden seem to have a knack at making the best games ^_^.

It would make my life if I could get my Physical Warfare copy of BF3 signed by Patrick Bach, Lars Gustavsson, Stefan Strandberg, and of course, Andreas Ronnberg someday. :)

Wow, you sir are a talented guy :). It was interesting to see how you made from concept to final. And even gave me a surprise that you are working with Dice on BF3, good luck with that. And please, can you tell me what music is playing at 22:18? It's so beautiful.

Why do you say you used your own song that you made at 38:53 when in both the original Afraid of Monsters and the Director's Cut it's the song titled 'Cliffs' by Aphex Twin? You can hear it here:

He said it was one of the unused songs at 37:25. I'm guessing that that song was in that scene in the mod prior to the final version.

The origonal games as far as the map design wen't failed they weren't very detailed but having those freaky *** monsters randomly appearing when you least expect it made up for that.

Really isn't hard developing a mod/game at the age of 12 if you have common sense and some intellect. I did it myself too. but for him to do it pretty much by himself is really impressive. It was the most amazing mod I ever played, and even better with friends. Good job
