Post news Report RSS Temp Permission System

ModDB/IndieDB gets a brand new temp permission system for adding new games easier.

Posted by on

The permissions system here on ModDB and IndieDB is an interesting beast. It was designed so that people could control any profiles that is connected to the original creating member or multiple people if it is a development group. This is a great system however there WAS one huge flaw, people who wanted to add a game they didn't own, say anything by a AAA developer, normally had permissions stripped from them before completing the profile with media and or downloads. This happens when the member who is making the new profile selects a development group they are not apart of, removing any rights they previously had to edit the game profile.

Thats all a thing of the past! Thanks to the wizard-like skills of our resident site coder, new games/mods regardless of development group now can be edited by the original profile creator as much as they want right up to the point the profile is activated by staff, this gives a chance for the member to correct any permissions based mistakes (anyone here accidentally selected the wrong development group in the past raise your hand) as well as add any media or make any changes to the descriptions and preview images.

Once a game is activated, the permissions will then change over to the development group members, so make sure you have selected the right group.

Now that's a solid way to effortlessly streamline what should be a simple process. I see a lot of effort on the sites part recently to eliminate " grey area " confusions in regard to policies for the benefit of all members. " Hats off to the staff ! "
