The first update of Storm on ModDB, featuring a Gameplay video with a lot of stealth action and a heartbeat sensor...

Posted by Falc on Feb 26th, 2011

Welcome to the first update of storm here on ModDB, featuring the new Gameplay Footage and a Public To-Do list.

Gameplay Footage

This Video shows Work-In-Progress Gameplay Footage in the destroyed Village which is placed in the early 30 minutes of the Game. You have to find your way through the buildigns and koreans to a generator. The Heartbeat sensor is your essential tool to cover your presence, while you sneak through the destroyed buildings to get a speical key from a sleeping enemy...

Technicaly Infos:
The heartbeat sensor is done in c++. Over simple raycast, the code checks if there is a enemy inside a angle of around 45°. If you aim directly on a Enemy, he gets logged on the Map. The Map is same as that Crysis one on the HUD. I brought that one over a few changes in the code onto the heartbeat sensor.

Some things changed while take this video :

  • The "Red Glowing" is removed
  • Enemies does notice now Sounds by your Footsteps
  • Spelling mistakes
  • and a few other things

Gotta admit, the way the minimap is implemented is pretty brilliant.

The heartbeat sensor... Well, I like the concept, but if I have to listen to that sound whenever I'm aiming at something, I think I'd rather be without it entirely.

Either turning the volume of the sensor down or changing the sound of it entirely could help.
Needs to be discreet enough that you wouldn't notice it if you didn't listen for it.

That's my thoughts at least.

Great stuff.

Ending reminded me of X-files. It'd great if someone made something like X-files in Crysis, right?

Epic gameplay trailer. I might just have to buy Crysis when this comes out.
