The Project Reality Mod and Black Sand Studios are proud to announce the official release of Project Reality v0.85!

Following the last release of Project Reality (v0.8), we have been continuously working to improve multiple aspects of game-play, resolve bugs with also create new weapons and vehicles for you to play with. Thanks to the continued support from you, the community and our dedicated team of testers, we have successfully corrected many of the bugs and game-play issues in v0.8 with also adding several new features, tweaks and assets. Please note that due to the size of the mod, we have split the download into two parts: Core and Levels. You will need to download and install both to run the mod. To download Project Reality v0.85, click the banner image below.

New Weapons
What first person shooter release would be complete without an array of new handheld toys and weapons to play with. Along with the overhaul of the weapon deviation system and weapon animations, the Insurgents, Chechen Rebels the new Taliban faction have recieved a large package from an unknown source of Kalashnikov rifles and other new toys to help them fight their guerilla war!

The new Russian Forces have also not been short changed with bringing in there new arsenal of weapons including there AK-74M Assault Rifles with underbarrel grenade launches and scopes attached!

Some USMC Soldiers are now equipped with the M68 aimpoint fitted onto there M16A4 assault rifles though they will not be as common as they are in the US Army, this should be a big help to the USMC when they get close up and personal with the enemy.

The Chinese Peoples Liberation Army (PLA) has also received a long awaited new Heavy Anti-Tank weapon, the PF-98 120mm Rocket Launcher. Unlike most other Heavy Anti-Tank weapons currently in-game, this weapon fires an unguided round. However, the PF-98 is lightweight and very easy to operate, as such it can be setup and fired in a much shorter time compared to its counterparts, giving it an unique edge.

  • AK-47 (Insurgent, Taliban, Chechen Rebels)
  • AK-47 Bayonet (Chechen Rebels)
  • AK-74 Scoped, Ironsight, UGL (Insurgents, Taliban, Chechen Rebels)
  • AK-74M Scoped, Ironsight and UGL (Russians)
  • AKS-74U (Russians, Insurgents, Chechen, Taliban)
  • Al-Quds RPK (Iraqi Insurgent, Taliban)
  • Artillery IED (Iraqi Insurgent)
  • Grenade Trap (Iraqi Insurgent, Taliban)
  • Incendiary Grenades (All Conventional Factions)
  • M16A4 with M68 (USMC)
  • PF-98 Heavy Anti-Tank (PLA)
  • RPG-7 Tandem Warhead (Russians)
  • SA80 Bayonet (British)
  • Trip Flare (All factions)

New Vehicles
With the addition of a new faction, comes new vehicles to compliment their infantry arsenal. We therefore bring to you the heavy assets of the Russian Forces, as well as a few other pieces of mobile equipment to bolster the other factions.

  • BTR-60 APC (Russia and MEC)
  • Gaskin Anti-Air Vehicle (MEC)
  • Humvee Avenger Anti-Air Vehicle (USA)
  • Logistic Trucks (All Conventional Factions)
  • Lynx AH-7 Transport Helicopter (British)
  • New HUD's for all Attack Helicopters
  • New HUD's for all Russian vehicles
  • T-72 MBT (MEC)

Logistics
Logistics will be a much bigger aspect of Project Reality in v0.85, with the new logistics system a good supply line will be a vital part for winning the battle. The new Logistics Trucks will be the main back bone to this system, as they are the only vehicle currently in v0.85 that can carry two supply crates, which are needed to crate a Forward Outpost. These Logistics trucks can be distinguished by the canvas on the back of them where normal transport trucks are open top. These also deploy some new Supply Crates which we have created are now faction specific so you can only can get ammo, supplies and kits from them if they are your own.

Vehicle Resupply & Repair
We have made drastic changes to the vehicle resupply and repair system in Project Reality v0.85. Land Vehicles can now only resupply at the Vehicle Depot located in or near your team's main base. You will need to drive your vehicle into the little parking space to replenish your ammunition. You can also repair at the Vehicle Depo, but if your vehicle becomes immobilised, then you will no longer be able to have a one man engineer team with only a adjustable spanner/wrench fix it, now you will be required to call in a logistics truck to help you with your repairs, which can then drop off a "repair station" that will then be able to repair the damages in the field at a very slow rate. This is to simulate a vehicle recovery system which is what would happen in real life if a vehicle got immobilized.

New Maps

  • Asad Khal (GB vs MEC)
  • Fallujah West (USMC vs INS)
  • Karbala (US Army vs INS)
  • Kozelsk (RU vs MIL)

Dammit, I just installed the 0.82 a couple of days ago. After reading the manual I was too scared to try it out. The amount of detail and general options put into this game is incredible.
Maybe I'll download this version and be able to overcome my fears of the real Battlefield ;)

This is the greatest representation of real combat I've seen. Sure it has its holes, but I blame most of them on DICE, for limiting so many things in the engine.

Vets be ware, you might have flashbacks O_O

...cough: 3.2 Gigabyte and all that after just having downloaded 1.6 gigs for the 0.8 version. That's a huuuge update - luckily I'm only minutes away from completing it.
This time I won't try understanding the manual, I'll just play and learn.

Hey, if anyone knows what's going on with my mouse, please reply. The game also crashed a lot after I had the mouse problem and I couldn't even get to deployment any more.
I'm sure this is a great mod, but what should i do? just reinstal? I have a 3750x2 gfx, in case that helps you find the problem.

Man this game bored me to death. I think it fills a niche of people who want this kind of game play, but the action is just not my cup of tea.

You guys have been at this for along time though, so we are talking some serious dedication to the cause.

If you had any problems with 0.8 (ALOT of people did) then give .85 a try, this version definitely tops the rest content and play wise.

If your daunted by the big picture of PR, take a few steps and you'll be right - Join a squad, communicate with them (they wont bite), have a little patience, ask questions and follow orders.

And if its your first time please....please dont take aircraft of any kind :P

I tried PR but didn't really enjoy it after 10 minutes of play. Was playing Fallujah. Didn't see combat the whole time. Ran over an allies tripmine. I really don't like the blood splash screen when you get hit, it's kindof cheezy. BF2 engine is also crap and glitchy and this is partially why i'm not enjoying PR. I like Resistance & Liberation mod for HL2 a lot more. But, nevertheless I will try PR again tomorrow and see how it gets better.

ajrichie, PR can be very annoying and confusing the first time you play it. It's always been this way on every release, but it's something you have to get your head around. Your part of an armed force here, not a bunch of crazy mercenaries that can just run off on their own agendas. If you join a squad and tag along with them, normally you'll get to the action soon enough. As for the blood effects, unless you shoot yourself in the leg with a pistol at your computer desk every time you get hit in PR, there is no way to simulate injury that accurately. Thus they add the injury effect screen because even though I havn't been shot before, I'm pretty sure your not going to shake off a bullet wound in real life.

Project Reality steps outside of Vanilla BF2 action wise because in real life, your not constantly tied in a close quarters battle pegging grenades at every square meter of ground and respawning every 10 seconds if you die. Combat is a serious thing which is reflected here by adding long respawn times, freakishly accurate weapons and huge maps.
War isn't about exposing yourself and yelling "RAAAAWR" while spamming a G36E, its about staying low and completing objectives, fighting when necessary.

Then again...you just might not be a tactical team oriented person which is OK...I guess. Either way, just play PR for a few weeks and get a feel for everything before you write it off, unlike half the people who comment on the PR Moddb Page who are too stupid to follow simple install instructions :P

I was bored and decided to give this mod a try after I heard from a friend that this was great.

And he was right.

I love the changes to the bf2 gameplay forcing people to cooperate more. It's a real thrill to be in a voip squad and assault enemy locations while a different squad operating an apc gives you cover fire, while yet another squad in a helicopter flanks around back.

Awesome!
