Welcome to Project Reality: Battlefield 2 (aka PR:BF2), a modification for the retail Battlefield 2 multi-player PC game. Project Reality's aim is to create a more realistic combat environment than standard Battlefield 2, and place a greater emphasis on teamwork and cooperation. Most of the aspects of Battlefield 2 that have the capacity to be modified have been tweaked, or completely overhauled, to reflect their real life counterparts, for increased realism. Ballistics have for example also been audited to reflect those of real weapons, including characteristics such as damage, deviation and bullet drop depending on a weapon systems calibre. Since EA and DICE no longer support Battlefield 2 and is no longer being played online, the Project Reality team made PR:BF2 a standalone game. No longer is a installation of Battlefield 2 required and we have implemented our own online account system for online play.

That Bayonet does not fit with Tactical weapons like this one.

'Tactical weapons' referring to a bog-standard L85A2?

If you don't understand what you're talking about, then don't act like you do. Most (if not all) modern rifles can mount a bayonet and every soldier is issued one.

The SA80 is about as tactical as my foot, and yes that's where the bayonet fits. Modern SA80 bayonets' blade is off at the edge of the hilt, so that when the weapon has said bayonet fixed it is still possible to fire, as bullet is not obstructed by the blade.

But you'll give someone a damned good stabbing with it, you certainly don't want to end up on the business end of one.

I just think its sad, that you have placed the bayonet right there. Shouldn't it be placed under the gun?
It looks like that your shooting with knifes.

The SA80 Fixed Bayonet is used in Afghanistan to kill enemy combatants in extremely close quarters. It is a modern necessity and is standard issue kit for all British infantrymen. Infantry still use bayonets for extremely close quarter combat, reference the Falklands war or US Marines in Iraq to hear some stories about modern day bayonet use in combat. Bayonets are also frequently used as tools as well as weapons.

Project Reality does not add stuff because it looks cool, the team adds weapons, tools and vehicles because they are used in reality or to serve a useful gameplay dynamic.

Heres some reference pictures for the SA80 Fixed Bayonet so you can see how it works:

As you can see, its a unique design, where the muzzle of the weapon slides right into the hollowed out handle of the bayonet.

No, it is attached to the flash hider and it means that the bayonet is much more secure ;)

What the hell is wrong with you people? It's a flash ELIMINATOR. Also does anybody know where I can get one of these with the bottle opener and wire cutter blade? Seems fairly rare atm, and the one over at wolf armories doesn't have the wire cutters or pins to attach all of it together.

PS: Yes it goes on there, yes it looks silly at a distance, yes it will carve you like turducken if you're on the wrong side of it since you use the whole force and weight of the rifle to stab and/or slash through somebody.

Hmph..
And I thought the SA80 was cool.
So, Are we going for a Call of Duty: Modern Warfare approach now?
Melee in guns?

UGH.

A few hundred games at least had melee before MW, and MW used a separate knife, not the gun itself or a fixed bayonet. If you're going to try and compare it to another game, at least pick one that used the same kind of system.

how does this work in game? Can you run up to an enemy and 'run him through' or do you have to 'select' knife and 'left click stab'?

The latter, presumably due to engine limitations (not to mention the sheer chaos that would ensue if touching other players with the bayonet alone did damage - can you imagine the accidental teamkills?)

Which secondary fire ? There only a primary fire and a aiming button in BF2...
