Hey OF2 fans, we’re coming at you fast with another quick, yet informative update before the big summer media release. Getting right down to business and starting off this update we would like to inform you all that the beloved chapter Outlands has been scrapped for mechanical and technical reasons. Fear not loyal fans, for we are replacing the setting for a more favored fan location, changing the name to Wastelands.

Shephard will now be exploring more familiar HL1 terrain, such as sandy deserts, cactus ridden plateaus and dangerous windy cliff sides. The change was done mainly because the Outlands chapter never quite made sense in our storyline, and it was hard to successfully piece the string of events from Opposing Force directly into Opposing Force 2 without confusing the player. Instead of being crammed to a linear string we felt that the player should explore some of the environment like they could in the original game. There will be different locations in the wasteland, each unique and important to the progress Shephard makes.

The player will be able to at certain points in the chapter drive around on a new vehicle type known as the Motorbike. The Motorbike is a desert type motorcycle that drives just how a motorcycle should and has a mounted machine gun on the front, which will come in handy when being chased by choppers and combine troops. The player will remain in control while still being guided through the chapter, and the player will never miss out on key events or experiences. We feel this will richen the experience between players and our game, giving OF2 something that no other mod has dared to do before.

Along with the level and play style changes we are also incorporating new NPC’S with unique coding, such as a new Rollermine and Antlion enemy. However right now we are taking suggestions over the official OF2 forums for new enemy types which can fit into the new environment, drop on by and give us your thoughts, if your creature gets to be the lucky one to be picked, you'll get your name in the ending credits too! Head over our forums and check it out:

This all being said we still want to give you all what we originally promised, so three levels from the Outlands chapter will be released in conjunction with the demo at the time of its release. Consider it a bonus, you get the full demo and an added three outland maps. Well, that’s all for now, stay tuned for the next release!

I'm disappointed by this.I loved your story and supported this mod every chance I got.

We just changed a chapter to something better. It's not like we cancelled the mod or changed the entire storyline. I don't think Spooboy stressed that we're not taking anything away besides the setting. And in return we're adding many features to make the chapter even better.

You can allways add the outlands chapter as a unlockable bonus map when you've completed the mod. Dangerous Worlds did this before, with a scrapped intro level.

We're not sure, just wait for the demo though. That'll give you something to play until the full thing.

So will there be a chase sequence like the one in Half Life 2 when the Hunter Chopper chases after Freeman in the air boat?

Sounds interesting, can't wait for some media. Who do you think will be making this map?

Since I'm the original mapper for Outlands, most likely me. But Hazard24 might have a try at it, I'm not sure yet. I'm currently doing two maps so we can show it on a video.

wastelands are mostly desert right??
what about a enemy that can move under the ground in the sand and come so very close to the player without he is seeing the monster( or you can only see parts of the monster or the sand moving where the monster is)
this could be some kind of antlion or a xen-worm

There's a thread on the forums for suggestions, if you haven't noticed.

Hey, it's not only me who's working on this game, dude. Specially since we have a small team, every single member does a lot for the game.
