After years of brainstorming and scheming, months of developing Mod DB v4 is here, and we hope you like what you see. If not, well let us try and convince you by sharing what Mod DB v4 is all about and what is still to come.
Background Story
For the past few years blogs, groups, friends, bookmarking and other "social networking" type features have been all the rage across the internet. Though we believe 99% of the time these features are a total waste of space, unless you are a lone ranger like Zorro or Chuck Norris, mod making is very much a team activity which requires communication and networking among many individuals. With this in mind we set out to build a site which empowers the developers to do what they do best (develop games), and gives the community control over the content, since the mob knows what it wants and we don't want to stand in its way. What does this all mean? Well member blogs can be used to share tidbits of your development knowledge, groups can be created (privately and publically) with the aim of working as a team by sharing assets, news and files among the groups members. Like Wikipedia all content is open, members can add engines, games, mods and addons to the site. Profiles now act as "full webpages" allowing you to browse, read and post news without ever leaving the profile. Multimedia content can be added and embeded (if a picture is worth a 1000 words, share a million by posting a video). Interlinking and relationships between content can be established so you can see which games run on which engines, and what addons, games and mods various groups are working on. v4 is an information powerhorse. Everything can be smartly connected which will hopefully with time make the Mod DB a great development resource which provides information from the developers to the engines powering the games, mods and addons built.
What's still to come
You are only looking at the tip of an iceberg. There is so much still to come, especially for the developers as we work on a suite of web-based tools which should assist you in your game development endevours. We are also going to bring you closer to the games industry, how games are made, how you can score a job doing what you love. Our todo list is 500 items long so you can expect to hear a lot from us as we work through it over the coming months and with MOTY only a week away you can bet things are not going to slow down anytime soon. In the meantime for a more detailed breakdown of what "v4" is all about, we recommend you check out the walkthrough. Otherwise enjoy the site, there are tons of new features to explore and use, and let us know your thoughts.

WOOTNESS for v4 goodness.
i cut better like the first version
This... Is... NOITORA!!
j/k, This is awesome!!
Holy ****!
This place looks AWESOME now!
I think I just pee'd a little. :x
*looks at Profile*
No one is friends with MadKill40 awww.
:'(
there are some things I personally don't like (don't know if those things are on your list, but doubt it)
the latest downloads take up too much space (even if its at the bottom)
you don't see from which mod team the news are (if they dont write in in the title and you don't click on the actual news)
I also think "Popular Games" isn't really needed. And how is "Popular Mods" decided? Perhaps you should integrate your toplist system somehow into it so the best 5 mods of all toplists are displayed there, too.
V4 looks TERRIBLE! I can't find anything!! Where the heck is my mod?? Wheres the watchers?? Where the is the godamm mods I watched???
This is by far the worst "update" for a homepage i ever seen!! This is just a mayor stepback hidden under a million Flash ads!!
Seriously...
These features have been replaced, calm down take a breath and have a look around become familiar with the new site and before you know it you will be telling the newbs how to do stuff :)
Somehow though I could not find out with what they have been replaced. Should be perhaps written somewhere so people can familiarize with the new system instead of swimming around helplessly :D
Up the top you will see updates when mods are updated you can click there and it will show you, its like mW.
Theres a walk though article up, it takes some getting used to but im sure you wont have trouble finding your way.
Exactly this is the problem: it doesn't work. If I click on the updates link I get a page telling me that there are no updates. So far this is all correct and sound but I still can't see a list of my watches ( or "tracking" how it's called now ). This list is what I'm missing. The watches seem to be taken over. I checked with a mod I know for sure is on my watch list and it is marked "tracking" but doing this for every mod is not what I call "tracking" ;)
We're on it - we'll be rolling out some form of 'my watches' in a code update in the next week or so
w00 go v4 !!
I like the look very much so... except for the shrunken frontpage. Still, if you guys deliver on the todo list, it will be the best... er, wait, yeah, where are the watchers? Also, stats like awards and mod registration dates? Please bring all the stats back. It looks good though.
Seems good. Ill admit it kinda made me sick to see consoles up there.
You can remove consoles from up there if you want! Hit the >> link, and you'll see options for customising your tabs.
Page looks quite good. It's clean and simple what makes it easy to use and stylish.
(*+_-#:) aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Where can I find the mods that I am tracking in my profile please.
One thing I dislike the most is the search feature.
Why search genre?
I preferred to search for the game the mod comes under.
I like the theme changing option much better than the set colors for each section. Now I can have my favorite color, green. =)
My mod is gone. Mod 631. I can't find it anymore. What the f...?
lol unlucky Renardin, appears they only duped the Crysis one
Moddb.com
not the C&C;Renegade one...thats a lol and phail.
You might have wanted to open-beta "V4" prior to foisting it upon the masses who came to become used to what this site offered prior to this "upgrade".
Then there is this: "To download maps, models, skins, audio and graphics we recommend you jump to the addon listing and browse the files available there." No more sorting? This is a huge step backwards, and makes the site harder to navigate. Where's the sorting? Why is it neccessary for us to browse through all that without being able to sort through it, when we could do it EASILY before? What the f...?
There was a V4 beta for ages - www.gamecore.com.. And it was pretty much the same as what it is at the moment. People were more concerned bitching about the name than actually getting used to the site
This is great =)
I love all the new stuff!
It's just what I wanted! =D
If you go to the mods section of a person's profile, the stats all seem to defer to unreleased even if some of the created mods are released.
It's OK, but theres still a lot of broken things, like the mod watch, and text going outside of tabs.
In my opinion it's not as good as the older version, it's way too flashy and theres no control panel. Maybe you should complete the site fully before anouncing it, also please get the control panel complete soon.
I luv how all the tutorials, comments, team lists, wathces etc are gone! Best Update Evva! *sarcasm*
WTF? I cant seem to navigate around V4. Where is everything? Im lost. I cant get to my control panel.
SWEET GO V4
I CANT NAVIGATE AND FIND STUFF AND EVERYTHING IS SOOOOOOOOOOO BIG LIKE VISTA AND I BROKE MY MOUSE WHEN I SAW THIS SITE AND BOUGHT A NEW ONE
