A Quick Introduction

Eidolon Awakened is a turn based creature collector roleplaying game. As a long time fan of creature collector games, this project is something I've wanted to work on for a while now.

The game revolves around the Eidolons, which started showing up all over the world after a catastrophic meteorite impact. You take the role of a Summoner, trained to summon and control them. Throughout your adventure you’ll discover a plethora of Eidolons to fight against and summon as part of your team, with each area offering a unique selection of Eidolons for the Summoner to discover.

A wild encounter!

In this dev log, I’d like to take a minute to talk about some of the core game mechanics around Eidolons, the primary focus of this game.

Eidolon Characteristics

Each Eidolon is unique in its own ways and excels at different things based on their attributes, resistances, potential and unique features.

Resistances determine how vulnerable an Eidolon is to that specific elemental affinity. An Eidolon can either Resist(Rs), be Weak(Wk), Nullify(Nl) or Drain(Dr) an affinity.

Potential determines how capable an Eidolon is at using a specific elemental affinity. The higher an Eidolon’s potential with an affinity is, the more powerful the ability will be and the less MP it will cost. On the contrary, a negative potential will result in higher MP usage and less efficacy in an affinity.

Finally every Eidolon has a unique Feature to reinforce its identity, providing different benefits to each Eidolon.

A detailed look at an Eidolon's characteristics

Eidolon Summoning

Eidolon Summoning is the process through which new Eidolon are added to the Summoner’s roster. In order to perform a Summoning you need to collect data of the corresponding Eidolon you’re trying to summon, either through battle or as rewards from various tasks. Once enough data is collected you can perform an Eidolon Summoning to add that Eidolon to your party or to Eidolon Storage.

Eidolon Fusion

You can fuse one of your existing Eidolons with data from another Eidolon. This will cause your Eidolon to gain a secondary Feature matching the Eidolon data you used in the fusion. Furthermore your Eidolon’s colour palette will be altered based on the data you used, although this can be turned off if the new palette is not to your liking. You can use the fusion system to experiment with nearly limitless different combinations.

That should cover the basic mechanics of Eidolons, although there are more mechanics that are not covered here.

I'd like to thank you for taking your time to read this far! I'll be setting up a Discord server for this project soon enough, but until then you can keep in touch with more frequent updates on Mastodon.

Until next time.
