Patch 4.1.1 for the Demo of Version 4.0 has been published. You can download it directly through the launcher, just use the update function.

This update is primarily a bugfix patch, eliminating many problems and reducing lag. We continue to fine-tune the gameplay mechanics of Edain 4.0 and the War of the Ring. Furthermore, the AI should now occupy outposts much more reliably and use a wider variety of structures. Among other things, this update brings you a reworked Thorin, new abilities for Sauron and a plethora of new sounds.

This update brings the following major changes:

- The Necromancer can now switch between his old shadow form and a new fire form. The shadow form remains focussed on support and ranged combat. In fire form, he burns all nearby enemies with his power, giving him a more aggressive playstyle - but also a more risky one, because he has to get closer to the enemy.

- We have added many new and unique soundsets, including new audio for Dain, Beorn, Gloin, Thorin Stonehelm and many more.

- The AI has been significantly improved and should occupy outposts more reliably as well as build a wider variety of structures.

- We added several new Palantir pictures for the units of Dol Amroth among users. Thanks to (Palland)raschi for his contributions.

- Statues have been reworked. They now reduce the price of heroes only up to a maximum of 30% for four statues and cost 150 resources. However, they also grant a stronger leadership bonus which persists for 30 seconds after a unit has left the radius of the statue. This should make their leadership much easier and more convenient to use.

- The Dwarven expedition camp has been reworked. You now have to combine elite infantry with pack horses to form an expedition instead of regular Guardians. In return, the expedition is no longer random and will always reward you with a group of veterans. However, the camp only spawns one group of horses every three minutes. This should eliminate the luck factor and ensure that veterans don't hit the field too early.

- The Dwarven tunnel system caused bugs, so we reverted it to the original mechanic. Tunnels now only house up to five units, and you can unload each of them individually.

- Kili and Fili have been improved with new abilities and are now always summoned at Thorin's level.

- Thorin Oakenshield has been redesigned and new gets his royal movie armor once he reaches rank ten.

The patch also contains the following balance changes:

- Gorthaur:
* Melee damage increased to 440
* Doom blade: Area damage increased by 50%, effect chance increases by 15%, radius increased by 20%
* Flame Strike lasts 30% longer
* Tol-in-Gauroth rate of fire decreased by 50%
* Vampire form's Eternal Thirst: Damage increased by 50%
* Health in all forms increased to 6000, the One Ring increases Sauron's health to 7000

- Monsters are 20% more resistant to pikes and sentry towers

- All cavalry moves 12% faster

- Tower Guard: Damage reduced by 15%

- Mordor Orcs, Minas Morgul Orcs and Dol Guldur Orcs:
* Health and damage increased by 10%
* Recruitment speed increased by 10%
* Grant 50% more experience to the barracks upon recruitment

- Isengard Mines and Fires of Isengard: Now deal less damage, but decrease the armor of all buildings in the explosion for a time. The effect is stronger for buildings that are close to the center of the explosion.

- Devastation spell: Recharge time increased slightly

- The Shadow Lord and the Dark Marshall now deal 350 damage in their standard form

- Prices of all Nazgûl upgrades have been decreased by up to 33%

- Khamûl: Health increased to 5000

- Witch-king: Health increased to 6000

- Dwarven Beer now only restores 50% of target's maximum health

- Economy structures within the fortress now grant the same amount of resources as those on settlements

- Dwarven siege plans and elite equipment: Research cost increased to 750

- Dain Ironfoot: Cost increased to 2600, while Thorin Stoneholm now costs 1800 instead

- Erebor axethrowers are more vulnerable against cavalry and archers

- Khazad-Dûm veterans have been slightly weakened and their Death Wish grants less damage and decreases their armor more significantly

- Gimli's damage and health have been significantly increased

- Heroic units now replenish fallen units much slower

hes fire form should have an attack though even a weak one it just looks dumb with him just standing their like a statue

Well, if the fire form also had an attack, then what's the point of the shadow form at all? (other than different skills).
Maybe a little compromise is to make the fire FX a bit more "aggressive". Like a passive animation for a passive attack.

perhaps but an animation of some sort should be added other wise its just him standing there and units loosing health no fx's really besides his body which is kinda lame

unstable to the point of unplayable. Game keeps lagging every 2 minutes to the second when playing as Mordor. Eventually it just stops working entirely.

Don't play against a dwarven AI. This AI still causes problems. The AI is trying to fix it, but as long as you aren't playing with it everything should work fine. :)

Hi Edain team,

Great update! And let me just say that Edain 4.0 is awesome, way better than the original game!
I have one little question/request: would it be possible to add 1 soundset for Balin? I would love him to say 'Balin, at yer service' when he spawns at a citadel. He's my favourite character from the movies.

The upgrades are rolling out already? yeyyyy I'm excited to receive mine^^
Windows systems are backward compatible, means a newer version should be able to run most programs for older systems.
However, with BFME you might run to the problem that was in Win7 and Win8 that the game won't start. To fix it; in Edain Launcher go to options, and click "fix a non-starting game" and all will be well and done :)

Or plan for the next time is to add the missing factions (Imladris, Lorien, Misty Mountains and Angmar), which aren't included in 4.1 yet.

It hasn't been confirmed that Easterlings will have a separate faction at all.
Nonetheless, after all Edain factions are re added, they will try to add 2 more totally new factions, which may (or may not) include an Evil Men.
Up to this point, all ideas of what those 2 factions may be are pure fan speculations.

So up until 4.1 I had no problems. However upon updating to 4.1.1 any time I load up the mod the game just crashes at the title screen. The original RotWK still works however. I'm running this on windows 10 currently, and suggestions on how to fix it?

Install DirectX 9.0c and Microsoft c++ Redistructable, both are not installed with Windows 10 directly but are necessary to play the game. You should be able to find both on your game dvd.

I tried that and the problem still persists. It reaches the start screen (on the mod) then crashes the moment the starting tiles show up. Then on the original game, it crashes the moment an option is selected and it switches to a loading screen.

Did you install your graphics card driver after updating to Windows 10? It is necessary. If that still is not helping try reinstalling the game. Upgrading a OS can also lead to damaged programs, so that that might help.

I've tried a full reinstall (uninstalled both BFME 2, RotWK and the Edain Mod, and reinstalled them). However, upon doing that the issue is now even worse. It no longer even loads past the splash screen of either game, crashing as it tries to load further than that. I also checked the graphics card driver and everything there seems to be in order.

This error occurs through a missing options INI, run my startup fixxer or fix a non starting game in the launcher to create the correct file.
Did you install the graphics card driver yourself after upgrading or not? It is better to do it yourself, since the drivers delivered via Windows Update are often very old.

Yeah I did all of that and the problems still persist. It's loading up until the title screen again however the moment it tries to load moving graphics it just crashes.

Are you using a laptop with a Nvidia graphics card + Intel graphics chip? If so make sure the game (lotrbfme2ep1.exe and game.dat) is launched with the NVidia graphics card and not the Intel graphics chips, since these tend to crash the game.

Intel released a driver update like 2 months ago which leads to crashes in BFME 2. This update propably got installed with Windows 10, so that might be the cause of your problem.

Not really an alternative since there is like one driver available for Windows 10 at the moment. I honestly have no idea. Maybe try to run the game in window mode. You can set it also in the launcher settings.

Well thanks for the help. I think I may just revert back to a previous windows version and backdate my drivers then. Since this issue prevents me using quite a few of the games I have installed on this laptop. Thanks for the help anyway.

Last thing to try if you havent already would have been the compatibility mode. I am going to Upgrade to Windows 10 on my gaming computer next week, so if I receive the same error and I find a solution i am going to PM you. ;)

I tried that as well and no luck, appreciated though. For now ill just go in reverse and back date to 8.1 and the older driver software.

There is a maximum amount of total buildable heroes. As there are three different dwarven factions in one faction it is not possible to add so many heroes.

Therefore it is technically not possible and even if... imagine the time you'ld need to play all the heroes, this would most likely only happen in 2 hour games and the team want you to have the possibility to get them in a normal game and not only in a fun-game. So I personally like this version very much. :)
