Edain Demo 4.01 Released
We have just released our first patch for the Edain 4.0 demo. You can download it by using the update option in the launcher. Note that you'll have to check for updates twice to get the full patch. The first time, it will download an update for the launcher itself, then close to install that. After that, restart the launcher and check for updates again to download the patch for the mod itself. In the future, this will require only one click.

4.01 is primarily a bug fix update, removing many of the problems reported so far. Additionally, we have decided to remove SweetFX with this patch, as it caused problems for too many users. Custom Heroes can once again be selected normally for all factions except Rohan, we will keep working on this in the future. For Rohan, you can still use the old selection method, which has received a clearer popup description.
We have not made any large content changes so close after release, as we are still assessing feedback and want to give people time to play with the new version. However, we have implemented a first round of balance changes:
- Units are roughly 15% more vulnerable against their counter, i.e cavalry is 15% more vulnerable against pikemen. We have received feedback that many of you find the counter mechanics too weak, but we want to be cautious with our changes here in order to not upset the entire game balance.
- Mouth of Sauron now costs 2000
- Gothmog now costs 1200
- Nazgûl now cost 1500
- Fortresses of Minas Morgul and Dol Guldur now cost 3000
- Peasants have 50 less health
- Draft spell now requires two points
- Gamling now longer grants additional upgrades with his call to arms at higher levels
- Improved armor against arrows for battering rams, siege ladders and siege towers

Why you removed Gamling ability for upgrades I really liked it!?
Because it was overpowered as hell.
I agree that was a little OP!But still instead of reomving it,wasn't it possible to make it give smaller Bonus Damage!? :)

wHY NO MORE Radagast ?
Radagast is no more ringhero for Rohan, but Edain team invented for him a compromise solution. He will be in the spelbook for Lorien faction for some time and he will get three forms: "Radagast on Foot, on his Sledge or on his Eagle. Every form has its advantages and disadvantages." ;o)
Mordor is invincible in 1v1... Orc spam.. Orc Spam.. Spider Spam... And everything is free... Give some build cost them... Maybe 100... or at least 50...
I know that they aren't strong... But A good army can costs 20000 gold.. And Yes they can beat 100 hordes of orcs... But the 101st orc horde kill them.. And 101 hordes of orcs costs nothing.. Everything is free...
And to add to that Mordor just needs to get a dol guldor fortress up which is now 3000 sure but still infinite orcs with poison. It eats away at any enemy :D. Its fun to play with but can be kinda OP.
rohan is very weak i think... now no pwoer for peasants + late game still suck hard
Ok first Rohan was 2OP because of the peasants. Now it's really weak because of the peasants. O_o
If you guys have any useful suggestions, the team will gladly consider them.
try to dig deeper into the faction. Rohan has really good late game units and heroes. They also have a relatively cheap riders that can virtually do anything.

The lagg that I occasionally get after some time inside a skrimish fight makes the game unplayable sometimes. I've tried saving the game and restarting it but when I get into the saved game it's no different.
It normally happens after around 40min played when you have around 5000 units up.
It doesn't matter which faction I play but it happens the most with Isengard and Mordor, with the worst lagg happening when you play as Isengard by far. The units take one step, then it takes around 5 seconds until they take another step, in the meantime the game freezes.
Note: I have a really good computer and I had no such issues with the previous edain mod.

amhmmm 5000 units! FTW?! in the previous version even 2000+ units would kill the game!
It doesn't depend on your computer spects. It's related to the crappy game engine that is now pretty outdated and struggling to keep up with the modders ambitions.
btw most testers and players reported that this version runs much smoother than before in most normal games :/
You can use lower quality in the setting. It is the easy solution.
Or you can change some parameters. Something on the higher quality, something on the lower ...
Has the invisible snow troll bug on Mountains of Angmar been addressed? Or will that have to wait until the Angmar models are imported into the game?
They are visible after downloading 4.01.
How do I create or adapt existing custom maps to Edain 4.0?
I'm not a mapper, but if there was a easy way to do so... that'd be nice

there is a problem i have when entering the game.
i can load into the menu fine but then when i enter a skirmish game (loads in in like 5 seconds) it works for about 10-20 seconds then it crashes.
as well as when im in create a hero, choosing a hero is fine but when i go to pick powers the whole ui goes pink then it crashes and i get blue screen.
help please
Honestly this rather sounds like a problem with your graphics card or its driver than a problem induced through the mod.
I can't update Edain to 4.01. The launcher just keeps saying that it's searching for an update, but it never actually updates. It's been "searching for updates" for over 2 hours. What might be causing this?
Two possible reasons: the Server was under heavy load, simply close the launcher via task manager and try again in this case.
Or your Computer is veeeeeery slow. The updater is checking the MD5 sums oft every mod file which needs CPU power and HD power. In fast PCs it needs around 30 seconds, on very slow, like my netbook with an AMD E-350, it needs up to 5 minutes.
Is it possible to download this update via the web? My launcher can't find any update.
Something is wrong with your Installation. According to your comment history searching for updates instantly stops. This says to me that the launcher cant even check the first mod file. Make sure the following things are correct:
The launcher is installed in the game directory
The game directory was not moved or changed after Installation of the game and the mod.
You used the original EA Version and Installer so that every necessary registry key can be found.
Is the original game and Version 4.0 Wirkung?
Mordor subfactions so exspensive now....:(. Mordor is a bit nerfed in 4.0 with the slow orc production and what nut, but that's just the way I like it! Now whenever I win my freinds I'll get some credit and they'll stop saying: "You only win because you play with an OP faction!"---hate it when the say that!
In 2v2 mod... After killing an enemy, the max command point gets to 594. Even if it was higher.
In my opinion Mordor's fortesses were too expensive where they costed 2500! And now 3000 !?! With the outposts costing 1200 i think Minas Morgul and Dol Guldur will be played rarely
Give some cost to orc warriors and other free units.
I cant upgrade the Witch King or Khamel or any of the nazgul at the arsenal.Someone please help me out. Thanks! :)
You have to apply "Sauron influence" (Sauron's spell on the level three) on the citadel and then you can buy upgrades for Nazguls. Not arsenal but citadel. :o)

I found that ordinary orcs will be very strong in this new version I created the ranger died several times just for a group of orcs could fix it?
also would like to return with the power of Anduril in aragorn spellbook was my favorite hero in the previous version because of its enormous damage
Yes, enormous damage was quite OP thing. ... xD
It is reason why it is gone.
The enormous damage was a bug and there was no way to fix it. This is why we removed it.
AI during skirmish needs to be adjust, they rush at the beginning of the battle, not funny.

Hi, can anyone help me with SAVED games? This feature was working fine until Patch 4.01, now when I try to load a saved game it gets to 97% then fails. If I try a second load the game crashes out with a game.dat fault. All saved games prior to the patch are loading perfectly.
I think I have it sorted, seems the CaH and Player profile files may have been scrambled by patch install. Used the Fix Non-Starting Games button on Launcher tools tab. Games now saving and loading perfectly, had to recreate CaH and lost stats, but small price to pay
I can't build a camp in war of the ring, also the AI can't.
After playing this mod for several hours over the past few days, I can 100% say that your decision to revert back to the old BfME1 style was spot on. Fantastic work.
I've run into several problems with Sauron's influence not granting its bonus, or even giving it to a completely different structure. I tried to grant it to an orc barracks, but instead it jumped to the troll cage. Another time I tried to upgrade the siege works and nothing happened. Finally, I tried using Mordor's Grond spell on the siege works and the cooldown started, but no Grond appeared. Other than that, I've mainly just run into crashes here and there.
Excellent work as usual. I look forward to future releases, and thanks for all your hard work!

Great job with the mod...I love it! I do notice a couple of things are happening though that seem wrong...it wont let me recruit Théoden at Edoras or Helms Deep... is that supposed to be that way??

Also have that. If you capture one of the camps (left and right at bottom of map) you'll be able to recruit the Lord of the Mark. Forth Theolingas!
