Post news Report RSS AotF v2.03 Now Available

We've been out on the edge of known space looking for stability, and we think we've come as close as we can.

Greetings all,

It's been a hot minute, but we've finally completed work on another update for Ages of the Federation. It's uploaded and ready to play now.

The greatest priority with this update has been addressing the issues many players have been experiencing affecting the mod's stability. As the saint Bede might say, the mod has been as fickle and unstable as a sudden storm at sea, at least for some of you. This has been a tough nut to crack as the problems haven't seemed to be universal - some of you have found the mod utterly unplayable, others experience crashing at random points in gameplay, while others still haven't experienced such issues at all.

It's been frustrating and time consuming (Echo in particular has put in the hard yards) but we think we've finally made the mod as stable as it can be. We have, however, come up with another option in case some of you continue to experience these issues, though it requires some compromise. Hobbs has put together an add-on that strips the mod of its PBR lighting and shading system. The mod still looks fantastic, but the lighting isn't on the same level as that provided by the Sins: Remastered team. We're confident that without the PBR's substantial load on the mod's performance any lingering stability issues should cease to be a problem, so if you've downloaded v2.03 and still struggle to run the mod, we recommend running it with the 'Low-Res' add-on installed.

We will, of course, continue to address any further stability issues we come across, but our priority is now shifting towards actually completing the gameplay features of the mod. Placeholders and missing abilities and research options are now firmly in our sights, along with other exciting things like random events. But more on those at a later date.

Of course, there's still something very noticeably missing from the mod. Fear not - in due time the filling of that gap will be addressed. With a vengeance.

Romulan Release 2

They're coming...

We'll be back with another update hopefully soon.

Until then, be good. But not too good.

Well, it's still not any more stable than the previous version, even with the "low res" part of the mod enabled. I still have to lower the graphics down a bit or it will start crashing within about 15-20 minutes. If I do a 1vs1 match, I seem to be able to sometimes complete a match before it crashes but a 2vs2 or more and it's a no go after 15 or so minutes. A shame, because it is a beautiful mod at full graphical settings but I guess it's too much for the old sins engine.

That said, I still play the mod and love the new fed changes (even if they are still overpowered). I haven't really tried the other factions yet since the update, but I can't wait for the Romulan update.

Another mod has been experiencing a similar issue and recommended deleting the contents of your settings folder. It is located at: Documents\My Games\Ironclad Games\Sins of a Solar Empire Rebellion\Setting.

The game will then generate new settings for you. Can you let me know if this works?

Hello. I tried as you suggested and then set the graphics to max, but the game crashed in two minutes after doing this. There was apparently no difference even with a new settings file made.

Once I set the graphics back to the settings I had before (much lower graphics options) then it stabilized. Thank you for trying anyway.
