Zombie Panic: Source is a co-op oriented Survivor Vs Zombie multi-player survival horror modification for HL2. While our main priority is to make the mod as fun to play as possible, ZP:S plans to greatly expand on the core features of "Zombie panic" For HL1, with the obvious new features, impressive visuals, and of course atmospheric maps. More importantly ZP:S will not force players to fend against dumb and predictable AI, but instead keep the same intense thrill of surviving against intelligent and persistent player controlled zombies as the original.

Zombie Panic! Source v1.4 is NOW AVAILABLE! Launch ZPS to update your client!

A bit of what to expect:

Here is what's new:

  • Autovision now an advanced multiplayer option (turn on zombie vision automatically when you spawn as zombie).
  • Noscoot is now an advanced multiplayer option (old inventory system, for those who do not like the scoot).
  • Togglewalk is now an advanced multiplayer option (Make the walk key a "toggle" key, to turn walk on/off instead of having to hold it)
  • Uberpush (As a zombie, holding shift and doing a "push" results in a stronger push, at the cost of one feed-o-meter unit.)
  • New weapons: IED and M4 added.
  • All survivors now get a phone by default (Requires you bind it, command "phone", listed in keyboard options.)
  • Kill sounds (when you kill a zombie, you have a random chance of automatically taunting a new type of taunt.)
  • New model: Waitress
  • New map: ZPO_Keretti
  • Updates to Silence, deadend, biotec, zpo_subway, and town.
  • MOTD text file now updates the left panel of the "Join game" screen.
  • Dropping ammo/weapons now keeps you from picking items up for a very brief moment (1 second).
  • Walking backwards now isn't as speedy as it once was.
  • Func_Ladder added
  • Bunnyhop fix (Repeat jumping slows you down)
  • Headshot to zombies head now triggers gibbing
  • Dev and Contributor in-game avatar border added (Contrib status for others added soon)

We're currently working on another patch and content update so be sure to keep an eye out for updates on front page.

Funny in early testing you could pick up the zombie arms when they died and use em as weapons heh

Nope, when zombie died a lil cube would drop. You could pick it up and it would show up in first person as zombie hands. heh though it was fixed (broken) so it's no longer avail :)

Awesome stuff.
But a few niggles at one of those screenshots.
The phone looks like it's made of chrome and covered in some gooey see through substance...perhaps uh....lubricant...
It also has a line in the middle of the screen...
And the fingers on the bottom side look shredded or something, it looks like the texture from the creases on the top of a knuckle are on the tip of the finger on the under side.

Otherwise YAY, now I feel like playing ZPS :P

this game is way unbalanced i must say. when your teammates are hogs (urm.. almost every person in any server is a fu**ing hog) then you will die instantly due to some one getting killed then getting gang raped coz u only have a pistol with 2 FU***NG CLIPS IN IT!

Then find a better server. Nearly every time I play, everyone else on the server is pretty good with that kind of stuff. Also, pistol ammo isn't uncommon in most maps. If you can't find any, I suggest you try looking harder or being one of the first in your group to enter new areas.

Gave this a try for the new release and I must say it's a great mod! I jumped out of my chair a couple of times out of surprise and got a couple of good scares.
I actually wondered, if it would be possible to make a coop vs AI mode, where you don't respawn as zombie, but players might still become infected and turn during a round.
I think there would be no balancing issues with this gamemode, except too many zombies, maybe. If that is ever something bad...

folks, its true that like someone said previously, for newcomers the game can be difficult to play if play as survivor.

You spawn with almost no weapon or bullets, and if you travel the map to pick new weapons, you never find one because the players that know the map, already has came to the place first, and has picked the weapon first.

So first: You dont pick the weapon.
Second: You never know the places where the weapons are.

That makes newcomers think that the maps have no weapons.And that situation repeates every round. The ones who know where weapons are, pick them first, and the newcomers never learn where weapons will be on the next round.

I suggest that for newcomers, could be an option on the options menu.
When selected that opction, if the player finds a place that is a weapon spawn place, that has no weapon becaus other has already picket it, on that place, its higlight the sillouette of the weapon on the ground, so player will know at least that this is a "weapon spawn place", and next round will try to come there faster and pick it.

One of the best enemies this mod has is the feeling of unbalancing for newcomers, and this makes lots of players escape away from the mod.
Some kind of UI help like this should be included, because they play in disvantage against players that already known where the weapons are.
