Wow, thats really cool! I'm guessing that the number of clips held goes down as you continue to use them lol?
The amount of clips shown depends on the amount of bullets left.
The max amount of clips you can have (for any pistol) is 6 magazines. The makarov holds 8 rounds in one clip, so the total amount of bullets you can carry around will be 46 + 8.
To go back to your question, if there is 48 bullets left it shows 6 magazines. If there are for example 15 bullets left, it shows 2 magazines (of which one has only 7 bullets).
If you are completely out of magazines, it will present one empty magazine.
