XWVM is a mod to the original X-Wing game from Lucas Arts and Totally Games by Larry Holland and Edward Kilham. We are re-implementing the executable to extend the game beyond its original hardware support. The mod of course requires the player to own and have installation of the original X-Wing game, or have the GOG or Steam versions of X-Wing Special Edition (either the 1993 floppy, the 1994 CD, and/or 1998 Windows edition). The team of fans developing XWVM is not associated with Lucasfilm Ltd or Disney, and XWVM is not an official Star Wars product. XWVM isn't a standalone game, or total conversion, but a mod to the original. XWVM neither contains nor distributes any copyrighted material. All game resource files (missions, voice overs, SFX, iMUSE automaton, in-game graphics and 3D models, etc) are loaded from the player's copy of the original game, or are replacements originally created by our team, where the original resources are considered inadequate for today's standards.
Our collaborator MajorParts attempts Historical Y-Wing Mission 6 "Interception and Capture" and completes it less than 7 minutes.
Some additions since the previous video are:
- Wingmen radio voice messages. Even several unused in the original.
- Astromech "beeping" on critical events.
- Functional damage control instrument.
- Improved engine loops and doppler effect.
- Improved engine glows and and shadow effects.
And many more things are coming soon!
Loving the new additions. Keep it up!
Unbelievable work! It looks to me like it's starting to come together and look and feel like a proper X-Wing game! Congratulations!
Just a thought but if you guys need some inspiration what to do with the planets, google some screenshots of the FS2O mods. Particularly Diaspora or Blue Planet. They will knock your socks off. Sun looks great though!
Thanks.
We are going to eventually replace that primitive planet with better stuff.
Just to much stuff to do. :)

While the planetary backdrops in the many FS2O mods look incredible, we're going after a background with 3D meshes as opposed to the 2D-image ones in FS2O.
But as Azrapse already said: The current planet will be replaced with something better sooner or later. :-)
Can't wait :)
