War of the Silmarils is a sub-mod of Third Age: Total War, the ever popular total conversion for Medieval II: Total War Kingdoms. The goal is to follow the lore as closely as possible and faithfully reproduce the heroic First Age of Tolkien's Middle-earth in the Medieval II: Total War engine. War of the Silmarils features many new unique factions, each complete with a roster of units, a completely new campaign map of Beleriand and the lands to the North, and much more. So if you're one of the many who have been enthralled by Tolkien's mystical world, this is a mod to watch!

Even amongst a race as great as the Elven race there are those who prefer a life of peace and joy rather than one of turmoil and violence. These Elves enjoy walking through the woods and sitting by lakes of silver-grey, listening to the talk of the birds and beasts of the wild rather than pursuing them while hunting. While during peace the soldiers keep vigil, these Elves return to their woods and homes, writing poetry, stories and enjoying existence. Joyfully they walk on the banks of moonlit meres, singing songs of praise to Illuvatar in their fair voices. Their craft is really not that of war but that of making things of great beauty; statues, poems and paintings.

However, they are no craven dogs , and even though their true skill is not in the art of war, they are valiant and what they lack in skill they make up in valour. In times of need one can always count on these militia soldiers to fight and hold as long as possible against any foe. Because they are only part time warriors they own no blades or gear of lineage, relying on well forged standard blades and shields to hold the line against their foe. Because of their lack of armour they are best suited to cushion enemy charges and dispose of light enemy soldiery in order to keep more heavily armed and armoured troops fresh.
