Report RSS Why the damn delay

Just some short information about why Trek Wars 2.0 isn't released yet

Posted by on

Wasn't Trek Wars 2.0 supposed to be released already? Erm... yes - you're right... and it seems that "some" people already have the finished and finalised version even before I had it - btw... I'm the guy who is doing this mod together with Ancalagon.

You wonder how someone already can have my mod even before I finished it? Well I can't tell you, maybe they got it with a time machine...

Nevertheless - some of these people who already have the finished and release ready versions wanted to know why i haven't mentioned them in my credits for the mod. Well - you may get my dilemma here. I haven't released the mod yet, but they allready know i haven't put their names on my credits list - or their readme in the readme folder.

So, to work this out I just see two options.

1) I cancel the mod to make sure this version the other guys have (the one without credits that isn't released yet) will never see the light... or

2) I have to send pictures of the models I want to use to a friend of mine, who is modeller, and ask him to rebuild all these models - so i don't have this bloody credit problem anymore and just can say "Ship BlaBla based on Ship BlaBlubb"

We decided to do the 2nd way, and so, you ppl need to wait till my modeller finished all models.

The good news (yeah there are some too) is that i'm nearly done with all the XML work, and was really close to the release (btw. WITH a readme folder, and a credits.txt and even ingame credits)

sorry to delay you more :(
it wasn't planned that way, but the good thing is, that I can allow the usage of the models after the release without any trouble :)

kind regards
Raziel

This is an odd reaction.

I was sent here by one of the fans of your mod. They saw two videos that contained two well known Klingon ships in the community, the C-9A and the Mavaq, but did not see any credit to the person that designed and built them both....me.

Apparantly people were posting comments about both models, completely unaware that you had not designed them.

I find it a little curious that you would somehow find it unreasonable that commercially owned models require proper credits displayed. I also find your reaction curious, especially considering I offered for you to have both of those models and my other designs as well.

So it seems you would rather remove my designs from your mod instead of posting a simple credit like:

Heart of Kahless and Maveq designed and built by Raven Night

If that is the case, so be it. But I would prefer you do not attempt to somehow blame Nightsoft, or myself for the delay. Providing proper credit is a long time tradition for modeling, is well known in the community and is expected. To expect the same from you is not unreasonable by any stretch of the imagination.

I wish you luck in your mod. If you change your mind and decide you would like the models, let me know and I will provide the new designs.

no, you get me completely wrong...

we are 2 guys who are working on this mod. Ancalagon who reworks all the models and the texture maps, and I rig the models and bring them ingame with their propper XML code. For the last 15 years i always gave credits, so why should I stop right now? What i do here is just thinking "hey, this units looks cool, lets make a vid and show it others". I'm not even sure if these units will be used or not, we discuss that later when we do the balancing. Thats why I put credits in the finished work.

You wrote in your first mail that I released a mod with your models and didn't give you credits. Trek Wars 0.9 is released, true - it has no credits for you, true - but there are no models from you in it too! You models would be used in Trek Wars 2. I never released a mod with your models inside - so there couldn't be any credits giving because it's unreleased - it's that simple. And it's not you who I had the problems with. I told you that the mod was not released, and that I always give credits and it was fine for you, what I was happy about :)

But there are other people around who start a first contact like "Hey you bloody *** - you use my models in your mod, you get awards with you mod using my models and giving no credits". Same problem - they see version 0.9 is released, maybe they even download to have a look if there is their name in the credits file, and they get mad if their name is not inside, but they completely ignore that there is a version 0.9 and a version 2.0. It's just a misunderstanding - but they get mad, and if ppl start calling me things like in the quote above I usually loose interest to work on such a project pretty fast. One can always ask nice and politely - and not put an aggression level up to 100%.

I think that you can avoid a lengthy delay to the mod by sitting down with the parties involved (or do an MSN chat or whatever) and figuring it all out.

People make nice ships to have them show up in good MODs, and typing a line of credits is much faster than doing a new model. logically.

If you want I can act as mediator, the "demands" sound simple enough :P

And after reading the above comment I don't forsee anyone making a huge fuss and hurling death threats about to an honest attempt to straighten things out.

Well, usually all the models I use have a readme, I put all these readmes into a special readme folder that goes inside the mod folder, and i have a special credits.txt file, and ingame credits. Usually this is fine with all authors of the models I use, and some people did like my first version that much, that they allowed me to use all their models - so usualy i don't have any problem, BUT some people say that I already HAVE released trek Wars 2 without crediting the - which just is not true...

So we'll add a line of credits, if disputed models are used, and call it a day? crisis over?

please?

Well, you added the credit in the video, and havent released the version of the mod with my models in it, so I dont know what this person was talking about that came to me. You seem reasonable enough to me.

Your welcome to use any designs I have. The instructions are in the readmes that come with the original files as to the usage, or I can just post it here in shorter form if you like.

Some of the models are paid commercial ones, like the two you show in the video. Hence, Nightsoft has ownership of them, even though I created them (and im the boss ;))..im sure you understand how it works.

So they have different criteria then I do. My latest designs are all me.

For Nightsoft, you have to display proper credits for any pic, video or download. Normally the mod becomes property of Nightsoft if you use a product that Nightsoft owns in it...I have however secured an agreement not to do this in this case. So you can use the models as you see fit.

The nightsoft models say so in the readmes.

For my models you just give credit in the readme. I dont care how you use my models, as long as you dont sell them without my permission. My personal usage guidelines are much less stringent, but then again my models are free...so no cost, no worries.

There it is in a nutshell. That is why proper credit for the Maveq and HOK are important...my latest designs, not so much.

I think the issue you are running acrossed is not people seeing the mod and thinking they have not been credited, but when the see renders of their models (or a friends model) with out any credits in the render (i found several like this in your image section). That is a big issue as it suggests you are passing it off as your own, even if it was unintentional. My suggestion is when you render a ship out (whether via a 3d program or a screen cap) to include proper credits to the creators. Doing so will avoid any issues you come across. I would advise you doing this for your current renders in your image sections as I noticed most of those are either from modelers i know or from the SFC series.

honestly I am a star blazers super fan :)
but having the game empire at war I found trhat this (version the 0.9 and the 0.9 interpretation are awesome , simply awesome !!!)
I always love to play the federation :)
the ships are very nicely done and I can not wait the version 2.0 to be released , I hope that Razielkanos and Ravennight can have an agreement and that also the ships wonderfully modeled by Ravennight can be included in this super cool mod
what I would like to ask is ... is it possible that the AI for the enemies can get them to advance in tech level and build space stations above level 2 ? many thanks for your work Enrico

from what I can understand there are only 2 ships which have credits problems maybe the fastest solution is not to include them in the 2.0 release ...
and possibly wait to have an agreement to include them in a 2.1 version ?
