Tour of Duty is a realistic team play mod for Halflife by Valve Software. The game is set at the height of the Vietnam war, between 1967 and 1973 allowing you to relive the conflict fighting either for the United States Marine Corp (USMC) or the Viet Cong (VC)/North Vietnamese Army (NVA). The mod features realistic weapons of the period, and a number of gameplay styles including control point capture, demolition or bombing missions, capture the flag/radio/codemachine and escape and evasion are the currently coded styles. We are also planning on adding rescue missions, where you'll rescue a general or famous figure. We've added support for some vehicles that players can ride into the action in, with guns 'ablazing', right now, we have a huey that players ride to the bomb target zone, and have plans for PT boats in future levels.

You as the ToD community can have a say in the future of the mod. This in no way means it will happen or even anything more will happen. I am trying to get a feel for it all before I try to get any dev team members back or recruit some new ones. So here is the question I have. Reply to the question, then explain why you feel that way.

Should ToD just be worked on and fixed and updated for HL1? Should we make it into a HL2 mod with the same ideas with a lot more added? Or should we do both?

Ive never heard of it. Im too lazy to search for it too, as are most people. Include some links or info.

Moddb.com or you could click mod profile up there on the top bar. all the download links are working, I will upload v1.3 later today. Also I know there are no screenshots, I will take some and put them up later as well.

i think you mean HL1. and thats fine. but thats what the question is about is do ppl want hl1 or hl2 or both.

Mar 14 2006 Anchor

Both, but thats a lot of work...and waiting for gamers. I think some of the kinks should be smoothed out for the HL1 version, while slowly moving towards working on an HL2 version.

Ya thats what I was thinking, I think a fixed up version of HL1 would get the community back, and then release a really cool HL2 version.

I'd like to see it as a success and having a strong following before it is even considered on HL2. Although my computer runs HL2 like crap, It'd definately be a kick ass mod if it was on HL2. I could just imaging cp_jungle right now, with trip wires and rag dolls, bodies flying everywhere :D But I'd love to see it prefected on HL1, cause anyone can run and play HL1.

It was perfected on HL1. Before STEAM it had like 20 plus servers, Im not sure what it had at its peak anymore maybe 40.
Then after STEAM and the mod team leaving a ccouple unofficial versions were released.
these may contain the bugy versions you guys are talking about.

If the mod comes back I will create a ladder for clans to play on at www.theMLO.com

first off I'd like to say it was a great mod for hl1. But I think Hl1 has seen its better days. I would like to see it as a hl2 mod though, because the only vietnam mod i saw for hl2 died (it was lookin pretty good too)
but then again, if you realease ToD one more time for hl1 then you could keep ppl waiting for the source release. I wouldnt mind playing ToD fer hl1
Viva ToD!

i know HL1 has had better days, but finishing on a good working patch i think is a good way to go, and with something that can be fixed in a month or two of hard work that can rebuild a fan base for a following for a hl2 version is worth it.

This project spawned by ours is an amazing thing. In many ways we failed as a mod team in keeping our mod alive and well. We all learned a tremendous amount from the project, and some have even gone on to full time careers in the games industry.

Just had to chime in and say... wow, modifications are a great thing. I can't even navigate this site anymore, as the team has kept this site alive and vibrant, and changing with the times. I'm pretty sure you can't navigate it with lynx anymore for example haha!
