This mod will add new units to your supreme commander Forged Alliance game. This mod can be played in both single player and multiplayer. All my units will have Sorian AI support.
Ok, I sat down and read some tutorials, I really want to learn how to make a unique texture for my models, and this is my first try ever at making a texture from scratch. I dont know, but I think its ok. please tell me what you think, and give ideas if you know how to improve it! Before ive always used original Supcom textures.
at first i thought it was.. crap
but then i thought. not bad for a first texture ever :3
don't have any ideas to improve your skills. sorry
but i suggest you just keep trying and eventually when you skills reach a new level you can update the old textures
You must be a hell of a texturer if you're able to cast judgement on his first skin.
That aside, looks fantastic. I like the line-art feel to it.
for saying this is your first texture its very good, you've done a very good job with it. you've done a good job on breaking up the texture with different shading and giving that rust affect, the only bit of advise i would give you is look at putting in shadows/lighten areas where you have say cracks in the area or where something should be raised/resessed just so it gives the imrpession of the how the light falls on it to cast shadows etc..
you can see this best on the back section as its very clear defined black lines. But other than that its very good, keep up the good work.
Also make the six red lights in the front have a brighter touch of red so they look like lights with the darker red looking like a reflection against the black metal. Great first texture for what looks like a unit that has flown quite a few missions. Is it possible to have the texture change once the unit achieves veteran status, from a newer off the production line texture?
I think its possible, but thats alot of work :)
you need two textures for one unit, or possible more variations for how much wear you want it to have over time. so i think i will stick to making one xD cool idea tho, and ill try out those lights you mentioned
XD Ty, Maybe it could be done later on for the mod, or you could outsource the texture to other texture artists to get the variations done quickly. You're already amazingly quick with updating your mod, can't wait to see the updated texture. :)
Definitely looks great for a first time. As with your models, keep it up and you'll be a pro in no time, I look forward to seeing the results!
really good texture for your first try!
may I ask how long did it took for you?
also in the process always bake some ambient occlusion maps. just google "ambient occlusion baking to texture" or something like that.
As a final step. Always collapse your photoshop file to one layer and then sharpen and adjust contrast or brightness. It improves the overall final look and brings out details which maybe got lost in the process.
Keep practicing man! It's all just practice! I know it ;)
thanks for the tips, I think it took me about 20 minutes or something to make the texture xD
Could use some more color but overall it's nice.
Honestly, It looks great, Its really really good for your first try
I think it looks quite good i like the wings especialy
