I love it (really). But to be fair, i have to agree with the opinion of the missing thick forest near the fortress. And, if i'm not mistaken, i remember Dol Guldur to be described as a little more ruined than this.
Everybody Geez has anyone ever read the books Dol Guldur was orginally named 'Amon Lanc' which means 'Bald Hill'. There were almost no trees on that hill, and there is alot of trees around it on the map. KingKong wanted Dol Guldur to be like this: Simple, but effective.
Quite correct. The hill has no trees on it. However, the area around the hill is said to be a thick forrest of dark trees(I believe it was pine with very dark green needles (almost black)). So on this map, the area around the base of the hill should be covered in dark pine trees. However, that Dol Guldur is very nice; not exactly what I think of but still very nice. Can't wait for the beta ;).
Just my personal opinion, but Dol Guldur from LOTR Online is way bigger and better looking. And I DID think that Dol Guldur was supposed to be more imposing since it's a standalone Mordor fortress surrounded by mostly elven domains like lothlorien to the west and the rest of mirkwood to the north, not to mention rohan to the southwest and the empty wasteland of Dagorlad to the southeast. I just imagine dol guldur to be more....well, bigger and more threatening. But, thats just me :)
The Dol Guldur from Lotro is just too much lore-rape.
1. It's not even a hill, but a small steep mountain on wich the fortress stands while it was just a great hill in the lotr-lore.
2. It has alot of trees on the 'hill' while in lotr-lore the hill has almost no trees at all.
Oh and btw, for people who miss the Mordor look on Dol Guldur, it once belonged to a great elven kingdom in the second age.
niiice!
Sweet!

It may have been lore-rape, but it still looked badass.
