The island is a singleplayer, first person shooter mod. There are no puzzles here, just pure, intense action. And who are your enemies? An army made up solely of zombies, particularly fast zombies, and their headcrabs. Where is this taking place? Any random island; the location is irrelevant. This mod will be best suited to skilled action-oriented gamers. The mod is eight maps in length and includes many of the Source engine's advanced features and effects. Work on The Island is complete and the mod is currently available for download. I would just like to apologise for the release date being two months later than originally planned. Man made hell :-)

Pretty dull, unless you just want to easly plow through enemies who don't shoot back.

Так себе. Скучно.

It was amongst the first Half-Life 2 mods I had ever played. I enjoying it alot back then.

Although, after playing hundreds of other maps and mods for Half-life 1 and 2... it hasn't aged very well.

Unlike the first dead-sector, the remake removes many of the elements that made the first one so good. The atmosphere I feel has been dumbed down and much of the level design is very bright and lacks many details that were missing from the first.

While it is still a straight-forward action-shooter, it is quite repetitive and may turn off players before they get the chance to finish it :/

It seemed good at first, but then I realized that while it may have some nice visuals that its appeal is merely hanging on that fact. The gameplay is repetitive, sending you through long hallways after hallways of caves and metal walkways with the occasional headcrab.

I was surprised to hear that its actually a sequel to a hl 1 mod, Dead Sector. What happened... it’s not that the source engine or anything ruined it- in fact, it looks even better. Apart from not being set at night... The problem is that stalk3r basically threw out everything that made the original so much fun. The original was classic HLSP action- you are all alone on a little island infested with (headcrab) zombies. There is very little action, except for a zombie swarm about halfway through and the occasional smacking of zombies that are in your way in darkened passages. in fact you don’t actually get a firearm until late in the game, having to rely solely on your crowbar. It’s possible to go through some maps without seeing a zombie, period.

Dead sector source gets rid of all that. Instead, it’s a straightforward average action-shooter, and instead of 12 maps, there are about 4 or 5.
