Work on The Island is complete and the mod is currently available for download. I would just like to apologise for the release date being two months later than originally planned.
More information about The Island mod for Half-Life 2 can be found here:
The island is a singleplayer, first person shooter mod. There are no puzzles here, just pure, intense action. And who are your enemies? An army made up solely of zombies, particularly fast zombies, and their headcrabs. Where is this taking place? Any random island; the location is irrelevant.
This mod will be best suited to skilled action-oriented gamers. The mod is eight maps in length and includes many of the Source engine's advanced features and effects.

I enjoyed this. The zombie horde battle arena was really cool. Very nice mappack to spice things up a bit.
awesome mod,I think everyone should take a look :)
I gave this a try, it was pretty fun. Excellent mapping, it was outstanding. Check it out!
If it really good as the above users say it us, you should release it on Vapour as well, and give it a bit more of a PR-Push overall.
Good job, full of action, and I enjoyed it throughly. :D
Looks good from the pictures. And with these people saying it's great, I'm deffinately gonna give it a try. I don't know why, but I've been craving some good SP additions.
just downloaded it and played it
very well made and i like the secret areas you put in
9/10
It's a map pack (singleplayer) so it aint really a mod Sonic_Valley.
Downloading now, i'll post my comments after playing.
Downloade played, ... opinions :
1-Too repetitive, hallway after hallway between a few outdoorsy scenes, the hallways are the same and same like copy pasted.
2-Low-detailed, you ever seen a square hallway, withouth anything in it, not even a single support beam once in a while.
3-Terrain could be made better that with simple brushes, try the displacements tool.
4-Just zombies are ... boring.
5-Could use more scripted sequences ...
6-No real storyline, NPC's don't even say anything other than their default sounds...
7-Too short, could be all in 1 map instead.
Overall, not that great, but with improvement it could be a lot better.
:)
I'm on the credits for this even though, sadly, I haven't played the mod. I think the story was secondary to Stalker's goal, which was working on getting a series of maps which run nicely from one to the other. The other problem which may have put him off is that Stalker is Czech, and since the vast majority of HL2 players are English-speaking, it would have meant a lot more translation for him (and localisation for me). Voice-acting is out of the question and even text-based dialogue and messages probably wouldn't have added much (unless Stalker is secretly hiding some profound writing skills!).
The story is based around The Island being infested with zombies, although why that is I'm unsure. I didn't really get given that much text to spruce up, although if there are subsequent changes to the mod (like adding in some in-game text, then I've told Stalker I'll be more than happy to help him out with that. It may get boring fighting zombie after zombie, but that much is intended according to the storyline.
If you have any feedback on what you think might make this mod better add a comment here and, you never know, Stalker may update the mod with edited maps, gameplay and story.
It was fun playing it, a bit short.. like 5min.. still nice map ;P
I found this piece of text that hasn't been included in the profile. I think it's in-game text but it shouldn't hurt to post it here as it only gives a rough idea of the story:
You find yourself alone on an island whose population has been contaminated by a strange virus which is causing all life forms to mutate into horrific and dangerous monsters. You must make your way to the main harbour in order to escape The Island
Nah that was in the game i think, or i read it somewhere else, but it's still not storyline enough, how did it happe? why did it happen there, whos to blaim, who is the player (other than "I'm coming with you Gordon!").
I didnt neccesarily mean voice-acting, i ment using the hundreds of hl2 audio viles to make some sorta ambience, like wind blowing in the canyons, the survivors actually going like "Boy am i glad to see you" or something on those lines instead of "oh...hmm...kay, some dude who just killed 50 zombies with a shotgun is here, i'll just pretend like hes no one important :P"
Well yeah, incase a future release comes, good luck with it :)
