Description

This somewhat crude mock-up shows what an Ilsamir street might look like in one of the more officially-focussed quarters of Darineth. The repititioussness of the houses is not a feature I plan to retain and, indeed, the architectural features on display are more governmental than residential.

Points of note are the water pump and basin and the very high foot-path. This element (accompanied by high stone blocks in the street itself) are both very early "traffic-calming" measures which can be observed (in our history) in Roman town planning. The stones in the street serve to slow carts and horsemen and also as stepping stones across the street if it becomes flooded. The height of the foot-path serves to stop carts should they career off course.

The highly grey colour scheme will be tempered in such scenes by signs, flags, banners, wood-framed structures and, of course, by the Ilsamir citizenry.
