Because there is a person named Gordon Freeman has rebelled against of the combine, so there will be sent some combine forces and try to stop dr.Freeman. And the story is based on half-life 2 but on combines perspective.

Gearbox(makers of blue shift and opposing fource): havent even touched half-life in 9 years
