Yeah, there will be drawbacks to modding yourself, if you screw up your DNA (artificial cancer, for one). Also, instead of bioelectricity, use of some of these mods will burn actual calories, and affect your hunger level.

As far as other uses go, this is just the lowest-level one that you can get probably near the beginning. It's also one of the easiest features to implement which is why I decided to go with it first hehe. The others will require more work (and potentially modeling which I'll need community help with).

That's a possibility for the future! I had some ideas for alternate routes along those lines, and there is another character in the story series that could easily be a player character, who works for the security contractor hunting the present protagonist. Maybe once I get the current story all fleshed out.

Description

Biohacking. In keeping with the DIY, slumworld theme of the mod where you have no deep-pocketed super-governmental agency or "MI6-R-US" Discount Warehouse from which to acquire your fancy gadgetry, even your augmentations or "biohacks" will need to be researched/created on your own. As was mentioned, virtually everything in the game will be modifiable/hackable, including your own DNA.

Enter the Suitcase Biolab. No, not a briefcase stuffed with weapons-grade anthrax for bioterror, although that might happen later.

A biotech/genetic engineering-grade lab condensed into a laptop-sized bag. Collect genetic source material from various "mutations" caused by industrial dumping of toxic waste in New Shenzhen, California. Sequence genes, remix, etc, create personal genemod biohacks, inject yourself. The one pictured involves modifying yourself with bioluminescence genes for use as a human flashlight (or blinding flashbang at higher levels). Inspired of course by the recent decentralization of biotechnology seen in the "biohacking movement", but taken to the next level. And, as always, one must be discrete as science itself is completely illegal, outside of official, 'government-sanctioned' corporate labs (public universities don't exist anymore either).
