The first SWAT Tournament Mod was released in summer 2003. It was one of the very first Freelancer mods that were developed. Being used on many Freelancer servers for tournaments in the following years this small mod showed its worth for balanced PVP tournaments.

In 2006 a new version was released and made public to the Freelancer community. Eventhough not much has been added the new version came with many fixes and quality improvements.

In first quater of 2009 it is planned to rework the tournament mod and add many new features allowing more kinds of combat styles. Deathmatch (1on1), Team Deathmatch, Assualt Matches, Racing Matches and Last Man Standing. Everything supported by newly designed tournaments arenas.

Of course like all other SWAT mods this one will get a fully graphic update similar to what can be already seen on the new Crossfire mod.

Crossfire 2.0 - 2016 in review

Hello Freelancers,

for a pretty long time I have not announced any news about Crossfire, but hat does not mean that there have not been updates and important changes in the past year.
I personally focused more on community work at www.swat-portal.com and also on updates for Crossfire and other projects.

Early in 2016 there was a big Crossfire update with lots of bug fixes, new ships and also a new singleplayer story mission. In the months after that multiple small updates were released, mainly updating ships and loadouts.
In summer 2016 another big update was released, which focuses on new animations for the game. This big update was followed by multiple small patches which addressed a few minor gameplay issues.

What to expect in 2017?

Just about a week ago I announced another update that I want to release end of December 2016 or beginning January 2017 (depending on how fast I can finish the development and how much extra content I decide to put in).

This new update will introduce the "Dynamic Universe" feature to Crossfire 2.0.
Some people might remember that we had a similar feature in Crossfire 1.83, long time ago.
Due to the complexity of such a feature and due to other priorities, the "Dynamic Universe" didn't make it into Crossfire 1.9 but it is time to add it to Crossfire 2.0 now.

What is the Dynamic Universe?

Basically we will introduce environmental events to the Crossfire universe which shape the systems in a new way and have influence on how the game can be played.
Events might be space weather (radiation after solar eruptions, increasing amount of comets, ion storms, etc.), temporary Jumpgate malfunctions, unstable jump holes, large scale alien invasions, etc.

These events will be available to the players on our official server in first place.
A version of the Dynamic Universe for the OpenSP (open singleplayer) mode might follow later.
The normal singleplayer with the storyline will be unaffected by these events in order to prevent conflicts with the story missions.
As part of this update I will also introduce an improved daily update mechanism, which will close the gap between market updates and server restarts.
This should resolve a few problems for the people which play around the time of the daily maintenance.

What else can be expected?

End of February or in March 2017 another Crossfire 2.0 update will follow.
That update will focus mostly on roleplay adjustments and better support of online clans.
There will be a community meeting to discuss the details.

Story Development

The last story mission (one of the Bonus missions) has been introduced a good while ago.
It is time for new missions to be released in 2017.
I want you to help me with that.
Share your ideas with us at www.swat-portal.com and be part of the development.
Take your chance to shape the world of Freelancer Crossfire.
