Report RSS Performance Improvement Hotfix!

We found out that the cause of the galactic lag in Fall of the Republic was not due to any new systems, corruption, factions, etc. It was instead of course because the squads of soldiers in tactical were quite large and for some reason that gets loaded by the game on the galactic level.

We found out that the cause of the galactic lag in Fall of the Republic was not due to any new systems, corruption, factions, etc. It was instead of course because the squads of soldiers in tactical were quite large and for some reason that gets loaded by the game on the galactic level. A hotfix has been pushed which turns several of the B1 squads in each company into tactical spawns. We'll do a more cohesive set of reworks in future versions, but for now performance should be quite a bit better. This doesn't remove EaW's inherent limitations, and more still needs to be done, but it should make a pretty big difference already. I have no idea if saves will be compatible, but they probably should.

With this, we'll probably be able to put up the 0.6 build on Mod Database within the next couple days, however for now it can be downloaded off the Steam Workshop:

Is every mod to some degree affected by this or only mods that have varied squad compositions?

It applies to everything. It's based on the number of units on the galactic map, it's just every individual squad member counts towards it, whether they're all homogeneous or not- that doesn't impact it. In FotR, compared to TR, it was more obvious because B1 have so many per squad compared to other stuff, but if you had 5 squads of 10 units you'd likely see the same effect as 1 squad of 50, give or take.

Interesting. You think Phoenix Rising could gain a nice performance boost from this or could you ask evilbobthebob about it?
Thanks :)

Yes, it would probably help with PR. Bob is part of the TR team, so he was there when I identified the issue and I brought up potential use in PR pretty much immediately.
