"I seek not to have power over men. I seek to protect the Imperial people. Tyranny is not my concern, simply because controlling the life of an individual is not in my interest. I simply believe the Empire properly exercises order through power- some of it's policies may not be correct, but it's end goal- and it's society- are ideal. Order. Peace. Prosperity. I may be a reformist, Lieutenant, but to not mistake this for insurrection."
-Captain of the Line Oriven Tactos, Captain of the Star Destroyer "Subjugator" and Imperial Reformist, c. 2 years after Endor.
(Note- this is not a real EU character, but my personal SW fan character that I've been developing for a few months now)
Well, that character of yours sounds exactly like the character in my own amateur SW book that I'm writing. :D
Think what you will about the Empire but they were the only reason the Vong didn't invade earlier than they did. For the Empire! <o
I don't know if that is entirely accurate. Nom Anor I think it was said that if the Vong had invaded during the Empire's prime, they would have certainly lost, but I don't remember the Vong's invasion date changed due to the Empire's existence or lack there of. The guy Nom Anor was talking to was quite surprised that any government could have stopped them.
Indeed, I don't know anything about the date, what I do know is that Palpatine knew about the invasion and was building the Death Stars to counter it
Damn rebels.
Good-guy Palp.
Let's not get into too much theory crafting. In the original source canon (the first 3 movies) the Death Star was obviously to intimidate the Galaxy.
However things like The Hand of Thrawn were purposely aimed towards the extragalactic threat.
And at any rate even if the Vong invaded during the empire, I'm sure 25000 Star Decorators and a handful of SSD memories will be more than enough to flip the enemy around and send them running through space XD

I thought for the minute that the side text quote was from Grand moff Tarkin.
Defiantly not. He was VERY interested in controlling peoples lives.

Prepare for attack!
Always fascinated by the Pellaeon-types. I guess when you've be in service to something for decades you have to lie and convince yourself it wasn't always inherently evil, and can be 'reformed'. Sorry, no, your racist space empire was always garbage, and not just by the built in virtue of being an empire. When all your ship classes and names have authoritarian, violent connotations, that's a bit of a clue.
