A small fleet of these can be very deadly to even super star destroyers if there is enough of them.

Yeah, though they're not as OP as they were in Empire at War. There's no hardpoints in Sins and Proton Torpedoes only have a 10% chance to bypass shields in this mod, not 100% as in FoC. :p

Is it possible tech tree upgrades could increase that or maybe a skill to fire a large volley?

I could, but would I want to? I like how the passive 10% bypass works. The Star Wars universe has two types of shields, ray shields (stop energy) and particle shields (stops projectiles/solid objects). Proton Torpedoes do not actually bypass shields as they do in games like the X-wing series or Empire at War. Rather they are blocked by particle shields. However most major warships have weaker particle shields, which is why I gave them the slight bypass rate. I don't really want them to be like phase missiles or EaW.

Phase Missiles made the Vasari a little bit OP.

Description

After showing you guys a rare non-Mon Calamari capitalship, it seems only fair to follow it up with something just as different, a Mon Calamari frigate.

Early in the Galactic Civil War after the Mon Calamari drove out the Imperial Garrison, Alliance ship designers had to decide how to best make use of this sudden Industrial base. While most of the Mon Calamari shipyards began converting their large civilian liners into heavy warships, the smaller dry docks had no existing vessels to refit. Thus the Mon Calamari began to produce their first new dedicated warships in living memory, culminating in the capable MC30c.

Without any recent experience in warship design, the MC30c borrowed heavily from the Recusant class Destroyer used by the Confederacy during the Clone Wars, since it was actually based on some Mon Calamari technology already. Like the Recusant but very much unlike other Mon Calamari warships, the MC30c was built for speed and firepower and the expense of durability. The MC30's main weapon was a pair of heavy Proton Torpedo tubes designed to quickly damage heavy warships and then retreat before the MC30 was destroyed in return. Against smaller warships the MC30 was equipped with an array of laser cannons and a few turbolasers, and like several Mon Calmari vessels it featured a unique point defense cluster warhead system that proved devastating against unshielded TIE Fighters.

Gameplay wise, the MC30 is interesting because it does not match the role type of any other ship in the mod. Its proton torpedoes deal the same type of damage as bombers, allowing it to hit capitalships and heavy cruisers hard, but its light armor type means it will also take heavy damage from these targets. It's laser armament is the same as light frigates, so it can supplement the fragile CR90 corvette against its primary targets as well.

Reminder: The nomination phase for the new hero contest will end tomorrow!
