tip 1: Don't upload screenshots taken in hammer editor, no one likes them. BUT if the map on screenshots have many awesome stuff, loats of entities and showing how hard it was to make it - people will like it.
tip 2: Read, study, learn. Read some tutorials, tips from commercial level-designers, such as these guys Level-design.org , also looking at portfolios is a good way for inspiration.
tip 3: Try to find real places-references for your maps, it's not so necessary but it help to make more real details.
