A HL2 Ep2 modification set in the 80´s South America. By now it´s meant to give the player a half hour of interesting playthrough with few original puzzles. The story behind the main character -and their identity itself- will remain as a mistery by now. Just think about a not so organized Combine force taking over a third world country, twenty five years in the past. All the visible content not taken from the original game has been made by me*. This reachs -but is not limited to- Levels, models, materials and sounds. * With the enormous exception of trees and guns whose will be either replaced or their authors properly credited.

Well. Everybody is showing stuff off their mods because of the anual award, so I thought I should show something. There hasn´t been any updates in the past eight months, so everybody (if actually anybody cared) must have assumed the mod is dead by now. Nothing farther from the true!

I´ve been working on this a lot. Of all three maps this is going to have, the second one is 99% done. I´ve done lot of models and textures, I´ve done quite a lot of sounds too and I finally got the help of a couple of voice actors. I´ve improved my skills in some departments and opened the range of areas in where to apply them. I´ve been making choreo scenes, lipsync and even scripts.
I also keep my plan of creating all custom stuff by myself, I´ll have to make an exception with the CZ pistol and some trees, but everything else will be 100% original and exclusive for this mod.
The other two maps are very advanced too, they need lot of work regarding scripting and gameplay which can take a lot of work, but having this other map practically finished, motivates me a lot to getting them done.
What is going to be a pain in the arse, is porting the mod. In all this time, i have been building it inside the ep2 folder. And I read that there are quite a few things that don´t work when you move over Source SDK 2007. So if anybody reading this has already gone through that and have a few tips, don´t keep them for yourself!
Finally, I want to make a special mention to these guys that have lended me a hand in all this time: Aaron Ho, Michael Crisp and Perry Liston have provided their voices for some of my characters. Mike Norvak has made a couple of sounds for me and also taught me a few useful things about sound. Mikko Sandt and Ryan Rouse provided advice and one of them is the alpha tester (which turns to be very useful, as it´s always better to know when something you´re doing is crap before keep working on it).
So yeah, if you have nothing to do, vote this mod for that year thing. It wont win, nor I´m expecting that to happen but at least have a look at the screenshots i posted today!
I hope development is coming along swimmingly :)
It´s stalled at the moment. But I´ll come back to it. I simply can´t leave such amount of work to go waste.
che de que parte del interior sos vos, porque la estacion "san cosme" XD se me hace conocida de por lobos o por ahi
Yo soy de Buenos Aires, pero tengo imaginación y memoria :)
A seriuosly good looking mod and an interesting change of environment.
South American retro mods; could be a new trend!
Waiting to play this.....
This mod looks so cool, but I apologize for being so dumb by asking the next question - Why this mod isn't set in Southernmost parts of the world? I mean, 80's must have been great times for the cultures in those places!
But if you actually tried to make a mod set in southern parts of our planet, then why I don't think the atmosphere looks like anything from there? Because of Source engine or just because the mod is barely Alpha yet?
P.S. Tracking
heh good question. This mod is actually set in the southernmost country of the world, which is Argentina, where I live. You may be thinking of the southernmost part of Argentina or Chile with snow and such. Well, that´s not exactly what I was aiming to.
What I hope this mod will resemble the place I´m being inspired by is the amount of referencial elements I´m putting into it. I have modeled desk phones like the ones used here in 80´s, public phones, gas pumps; cars, a moped and a bus; bottles, shovels, a guitar, water closets, money, a complete train, train signals, ads, cookies crates, benchs, punchclocks, fans, fire extingishers, magazines, manhole covers and some other stuff i may be forgetting. Everything has been inspired by real objects from the aforesaid country and era. The powerplant instead (that large indoor building with archs in the roof) is inspired by a north american power plant, but i love that building so much that i wanted to put it there anyway. The landscapes though, are limited to what can be done with Source (and my skills). You know here are all kind of landscapes from snow montains to sand deserts, so it is not easy to remain consistent.
Ah, and finally the mod is not alpha, i´d say it is about 70% done but it´s just that I barely take screenshots or care to keep updates of every progress I do.
Damn, looking great! So tired of mods based in hl2 universe using stock models, but your custom props look great. Keep up the good work.
Thanks man, actually there are a lot more of models i´m not showing yet (mostly small models). It´s still set in the Half life universe, an alternative story though.
Alternative story mods, such as Mistake of Pythagoras, City 7: Toronto Conflict, etc. always seem to come out at the very least interesting, even if not very well made. Luckily this seems like it's being made excellently, so I'm anticipating this modification quite a bit. ^^
