“What would happen if we applied Earth 2150 to Homeworld?” -- Slipstream: The Price of Freedom is just that. Or, at least, was supposed to be just that. What started as a multiplayer combat simulator, ended as the first entry into the Slipstream universe.

Hello Moddb!

I come to you today to update our fanbase on a few things we are working on. As Janurary comes to a close, we have released v2.3 with some rather stunning additions that defy the way homeworld 2 operates the game. But hold on there, the party is not over yet. We are currently working on implementing a more revised physics model for ships, which will make them look a bit more like they are actually in space. Another thing we are working on is the new ship hierarchy. In reality, Corvettes are not a simple step up from fighters, they are almost to a frigate. So, we are going to add a bit more scale to the corvettes, and remove the fighters completely, replacing them with new unmanned "Drones". This is purely for a bit of realism, as HisDivineShadow has explained many times "Fighters are impossible on this level of techology, they wouldnt have enough supplies or fuel to run in space like that." You see, fighters would need to carry oxygen, and small supplies for the pilot, plus ammo, and fuel, but since you already burnt up all that space with a cockpit and subsystems, so your stuck with a fuel drive. Plus, they get shot down too much, and would be a waste of good men to send them to their death in nothing but a tin can with a bottlerocket for an engine. Anyway, we also are planning bugfixes, possibly some new weapons, improvements to existing weapons, and a new upgrade system.

Another thing i wish to discuss is the addition of a new Fan Fiction and Roleplay section to our forums (Subreality.invisionplus.net) at Sub-Real Industries. The Forum is currently lead by Navck (who I believe to be an Expert at Roleplaying and simulated combat; he also serves as a technical advisor to TPOF and a chief tester of internal builds). If you are interested, go ahead and head over! I know that there is not much Canon to slipstream's actual backstory, but I am working on it. Its rather difficult to be the chief programmer/photoshopper/tester/web admin/cook/bottlewasher, but, I am indeed working on it. It's all in my head, just not on paper. Plus, you all may have noticed the changes i am making to the storyline i originally intended. See, we actually reviewed the current storyline and found that it was not as original as i once thought. Originally i had written slipstream seperate from TPOF (slipstreams prime story was to be set in the year 2701, but i didnt have enough backstory to actually work up to that point, so we decided to merge the price of freedom and slipstream, and just stitch the story together like so. Well, that didnt happen as well as we planned. So, we are going to tweak up the story, and hopefully produce some nice content that will be available to download and read. Thats all for right now, I hope that this update was a lot better than my last few. I know we are working kind of slow, as it is winter, and most of us are in school/work. As summer draws near, we'll be able to work faster. Plus, I will be starting college in the fall, so i will have a bit more time to develop than i normally do. wish us luck, and thanks for your continuing support!!

I can feel your pain... a December and January winter is just wrong... I've had to be in the northern hemisphere for 3 years now... No more! Can't stand the out-of-season (relatively speaking) cold!

I completely agree with the no fighters reasoning too, it's probably a plausible reason there were no fighters in Star Trek too :P
