“What would happen if we applied Earth 2150 to Homeworld?” -- Slipstream: The Price of Freedom is just that. Or, at least, was supposed to be just that. What started as a multiplayer combat simulator, ended as the first entry into the Slipstream universe.

Well, In game they do nothing at the moment (might script them in the campaign to do something). In the slipstream universe, they allow instant slipstream travel to anywhere there is a slipgate (that includes across the universe, so long as if you have the correct coordinates)

So, in Layman's terms, it's a stargate, but not.

Slipstreams from Andromeda. I love Andromeda. Yet theres no Andromeda. And you dont need a gate to Slipstream.

Actually, the slipstreams from andromeda are very different from the ones in this universe. Andromeda uses entanglement, while slipstreams are basically electromagnetic wormholes (without the gravity), that follow strict guidelines.
