Deus Ex is one of the best PC games in history, but even it isn't without its faults and shortcomings. Shifter addresses these and then some. Unused game content, buggy scripted events, several completely useless items, and certain design choices that can only be described as "annoying", all fixed (or at least "improved") by this little mod. I started Shifter in 2002 to fix just one of the latter -- the fact that weapons equipped with a laser sight won't turn it on automatically -- and the project has expanded exponentially since then. A few new weapons, some additional uses for existing items, new augmentations, and several fixes for existing Deus Ex bugs all exist in Shifter, along with a new multiplayer component. The mod is so popular it's been featured in Game Informer's July 2007 edition of Mod World; how many Deus Ex mods can say that? (only 3, to be specific) Shifter: "Removing the suck from Deus Ex" since 2002.

I'm on my second run through the game, this time with Shifter mod. I'm in the middle of the game already, and these are some flaws I've noticed for now:

- when replacing augmentations, their level doesn't go back to zero (or it happens only when replacing Skull Gun/other augs with Skull Gun)
- you can use Skull Gun even without bio-energy!
- there seems to be a problem with ammo system. I gathered combat knives, but they were pretty useless to me. I dropped the item. Nest time I got it from dead soldier, it appeared in my inventory with note "6 rds" on it. It happened even if I grabbed single knife.
Sort of the same problem happens with your ammo when you are captured and held in MJ-12 base under UNATCO HQ. AFAIR in normal game they took your ammo away. When I got the 10mm ammo box from the desk in detention, my ammo went to maximum. Same with other weapns, AFAIR.

- Greasels in MJ-12 lab in Hong Kong appear to be neutral all the time. It's rather funny than annoying - watching them rendering uncoscious people in labs and even guards (which - of course - killed them at some moment), but not the player character...

That's all for now, I think. When I notice some more errors - I'll let you know.
