Deus Ex is one of the best PC games in history, but even it isn't without its faults and shortcomings. Shifter addresses these and then some. Unused game content, buggy scripted events, several completely useless items, and certain design choices that can only be described as "annoying", all fixed (or at least "improved") by this little mod. I started Shifter in 2002 to fix just one of the latter -- the fact that weapons equipped with a laser sight won't turn it on automatically -- and the project has expanded exponentially since then. A few new weapons, some additional uses for existing items, new augmentations, and several fixes for existing Deus Ex bugs all exist in Shifter, along with a new multiplayer component. The mod is so popular it's been featured in Game Informer's July 2007 edition of Mod World; how many Deus Ex mods can say that? (only 3, to be specific) Shifter: "Removing the suck from Deus Ex" since 2002.

...Not.

I have a bone to pick, and I am going to pick it. I am going to pick the HELL out of this bone, because it is one HELL of a bone indeed. Upon installing shifter, I noticed something... The inventory glitch no longer works. Oh sure. It was a GLITCH! A MISTAKE, right? It wasn't supposed to work so it must OBVIOUSLY be a bad thing, right?

Let me tell you something:

That glitch required CREATIVITY, to get your uber inventory stacked just the way you wanted it to be. I can't tell you how much glee it gave me to defeat the restrictions by act of sheer ingenuity. It required skill, and it was rewarding. To me, it enhanced this game to an incredible degree--it is truly a prime example of what emergent gameplay stands for. And now it's gone.

I agree with Draegur. There's no point going Big weapons now because you can't carry enough of them. I would appreciate the option to enable the glitch for those of us that want to use it.

EDIT: After doing some research, I've discovered that it *IS* possible to have Shifter installed and still use the glitch bug. It involves enabling cheats. If you don't know how to do that, here's how:

1. Right-click on your Deus Ex shortcut, go to Properties, then at the "Target" line add "-hax0r" on the end (without talking marks). So it should look something like this: "C:\Program Files\Deus Ex\System\DeusEx.exe" -hax0r
2. Navigate to the Deus Ex System folder, and open up User.ini
3. Find all instances of "Tilde" and put "=talk" after them. For example it would look like this: Tilde=talk
4. Save file and exit.
5. Done!

Lol .. Yeah you can still use it in cheating mode which kinda enhances the fact that yes it is a cheat. a rewarding cheat .. but a cheat none the less..
I'm not sure so dont quote me on this .. but i think you can use it in unrealistic mode.. and if you cant .. i guess you could just activate cheats =)
I.. for one.. always used the exploit.. i dont anymore though ..
