The folks at Valve
have been kind enough to allow us to begin porting our mod to Source 2007. Unfortunately, the SDK is not out in it's entirety, which means we will need to delay our release to coincide with the SDK.
Thus, we are no longer the Three Month Mod, but what better time to announce our name change? We will be releasing under the name Project Valkyrie.
Jordan Ratzlaff has been hard at work on our new logo as well as finalizing the Valkyrie suit design:
In other news, we are looking for a couple Texture Artists and Modelers to add to our team for Project Valkyrie and future projects. Interested individuals should email us with samples of their work.
Sounds like you're nearly there.
Got to love Source's compulsory and game breaking SDK updates ;)
We could release on older Source with no issue, but Valve let us go ahead and port to the new SDK, which is pretty cool. We should be able to release the day of, or day after, the SDK is released.
First released mod on Orange Box, right? :)
lol, I just noticed what Zanboo said here..
While we could.. I would have to redo a whole bunch of things for that to happen and I haven't updated the old source tree with any of the bug fixes or newer features in a long time. Plus, I like the Orange Box features like the avatar and particle stuff ;)
Got to hate the ironies of working with source.
Best thing on delay - it can only get better.
Good luck furthermore.
Coolish, this project is interesting.
Hehe, I'm looking forward to this one so much I'm willing to forget the delay :p
Love the artwork :)
Absolutely any name is better than "Project: XYZ". :(
At least it'll still play the same!
Awesome project. Funny how people blame source when at least its the only engine that is practically constantly updated. Unlike other engines that may have a problem and only get fixed in a year or so.
That's not true - for example Unreal is updated monthly behind the scenes. you just don't see it.
I'm actually incredibly glad we didn't go through with the UT3 mod... the community so far is. . . lacking
Archive.gamespy.com
The GameSpy website is hardly the place to go for information.
Besides, it's only been out in Europe for a few hours, and isn't out in many other places yet. There are already several released maps and mutators, despite that.
Just to clarify here, gamespy *is* running the UT3 server browser, and I have a copy of the game. The servers are pretty much empty right now, even though the game is decent.
...so how does it help anyone?
It helps the developers. The modders don't need to know, because the updates don't break their stuff =p
Except when there is a case when this is true ;) It's not exactly anyones "fault" it was just bad timing. 3MM/TVP is 100% ported to Orange Box. Our test versions run off of TF2, but with that said.. we're not releasing a public version requiring TF2, especially when the complete SDK isn't out.
So what does this mean?how much longer will it take?Cheers, the mod looks nice.
Also will it be like tf2 with the score showing the picture next to it and stuff?cause that would be cool :)
Is the goal of Project: Valkyrie still to complete the mod in 3 months or whatever time is left?
We're still going to finish on time, but we can't release until the SDK update. We will have all the cool features of Source 2007, motion blur, Community support, etc.
Its not too hard to port to the OB engine and use the custom content and DLLs, one of my mates had an OB mod running a day after it was released. The problem for most mods is because have alot of code, they can't port yet (and its not worth it because mappers lose custom entities and **** like that). Being the first to port to OB isn't a great feat really
By being the first OB mod, that literally means the first OB mod utilizing the source. We're already completely 100% ported. Particle System, Avatar/Community stuff, the motion blur, everything.
