Observe the second painkeep "voting" hub. This start map / hub came in an expansion with a lot more maps. The one downside was that it didnt use all the original painkeep maps. And since it was also named start.bsp (in a higher numbered pak file) the server had no access to the original.

This hub has an interesting theme. The marquee (center ring shown around the pentagram) has huge letters "Quo's Hi-Action Painkeep". The pentagram has a face - a medusa, or perhaps Quo himself...

The sections are organized into 4 parts based partially on West World: Imdb.com -- and -- Future World: Imdb.com . A set of 70's sci fi movies about entertainment robots gone bad. Painkeep Cafe seems to be the main focus of the old style painkeep maps.

Not all the maps fit one of the 4 idioms. Each hub room is built after the stylized idiom of its marquee. There are only a few decorations aside from the map voting gates. It certainly makes an interesting looking hub - it still has the same purpose though - players vote for a map.

So, you may wonder - how do you guarantee every player a chance to vote? How many times have you joined a quake server only to be killed almost every time you spawn...sometimes it seems the rocket + sniper + camper plague servers all over. This one was easy - voting hubs give every entry and respawn 15 seconds of invulerable. More than enough time to get to a vote portal.

A note about pk2.2 admin map menu option 61:

There is no direct correlation between the map name (say pkn7) which is in a hub teleport entity and the message info (Ultraviolence in this case) which is in a trigger multiple entity. That is because the message trigger is placed in front of the hub_teleport entity. The admin option does a search for the nearest trigger to the hub tele and simply asserts that "may" be the correct message. Except for the original hub where the map name follows the message in ( )s.

So while some names are obvious (platinum) some of the pk* stuff could in fact be wrong.
