The year is 1984. Oceania is now the dominant world power, after overthrowing Eurasia. Many are in awe of this incredible world force, and subjugate themselves to its oppresive rule. The tyrant of Oceania, "Big Brother", is invading peoples personal lives more and more each day. First propaganda boards and television screens are erected at each street corner. Then, cameras are placed in each persons home. Every day this oppression grows, and soon those who are against Big Brothers tyranny end up missing or dead. Among this chaos, no one has a chance to complete their anti-government speeches.

Several underground groups emerge, but they are terminated mere hours after they arise. Children are encouraged to spy on their parents, siblings betray siblings.

Orwells Hell: 1984 is EuroTek Studios newest TC modification, based on the Source (Half-Life 2), and the X-Ray (STALKER) engines. Featuring an extensively deep singleplayer mode, and vast multiplayer possiblities, OH1984 is an urban-based mod, set in the rubble and chaos of Big Brothers empire at its peak. The plot centers on one groups attempts to overthrow this tyrannical government. The multiplayer modes include skirmishes between underground groups and the secret police, as well as a co-op mode for up to 32 players, that is as long and intricate as the singleplayer campaign.

OH1984 will feature an entire city open to exploration, rich with vehicles, pedestrians, other underground groups, and of course the secret police. The final goal is to assasinate Big Brother, but this may be very difficult. If you are found killing any one, or conspiring in front of a camera, the secret police will hunt you down.

OH1984 is best described as an openended team stealth game, with conspiracy elements.

News

I'm pretty excited to share with everyone here (those interested, at least) that I've decided to re-continue Orwells Hell: 1984. As you may or may not have noticed, my FarCry modification DrugWars didn't work out, but I didn't want to stop modding just yet. I've been thinking about this mod a lot since I announced it's cancellation, and decided already a while back that the concept of Orwell's masterpiece isn't actually that difficult to translate into an interactive experience. Now that DrugWars is out of the way, this would be my logical "fallback" project.

A lot of people contacted me back in May, or whenever this mod was first announced, interested in working on the team. If you were turned down then because of the cancellation, I'll be getting in touch with you pretty soon.

I hope that this comes as good news to at least a few people, and I am looking forward to fleshing the ideas out with some new faces, as well as some of those who were interested in this concept back in May.

Peace,
/*Sangye*/

1984 is one of my favorite books and I think it's great that someone is going to put it into the source engine. I wish you the best of luck!

If this games turns out like the movie Equilibrium and the novel 1984... then, well, I'll stalk the mod team.

I just completed HL2, and all the way through I was spotting things related to nineteen eighty four. Then I googled it and found this mod. This is such an amazing idea for a game – I have often wounded why there is no nineteen eighty four stand alone game. I really hope you can get it made, good look.

City 17's predicament seems to closely resemble the country describe by Orwell.
