Orcades is an action-adventure modification for Gothic I.
The mod takes place on a small island and focuses mainly on new and innovative quests and riddles and NOT on an epic story or a big and open world.
At the beginning you strand at the beach of the island you grew up. After you regain consciousness and explore the island, you find out that the island isn't abandoned at all. There are some curious characters and evil monsters. The island has changed a lot!
Besides the innovative quests and riddles, the mod has some pretty small but detailed designed worlds and a complete german voice output. The length of game play is about 7 hours.
Version 1.0 was released on Juni 23th, 2009, Version 1.1 on March 4th 2010 and Version 1.1.1 on November 27th 2010.
However there is just a german version of the mod but if you want to translate the mod you can download the sources.
Nevertheless if you want to get an impression of the mod you should take a look at the screen shots or the trailer below.

Bei Orcades handelt es sich um eine eigenständige Modifikation für Gothic I.
Der Held und einige Freunde sind zu Spielbeginn auf dem Weg zu ihrer Heimatinsel. Kurz vor der Küste knallt ihr Schiff allerdings einen Felsen und nur mit letzter Kraft können sich die Freunde an den Strand retten.
Sie müssen feststellen, dass die Insel mittlerweile nicht mehr unbewohnt ist und ihr altes Lager mittlerweile ganz schön heruntergekommen ist.
Jetzt ist es Ihre Aufgabe die Insel zu erkunden und ihre verrückten Bewohner kennenzulernen.
Die Modifikation setzt ihren Schwerpunkt nicht auf eine besonders gute Story oder große neue Welt, sondern versucht eher mit innovativen Quests und Rätseln zu überzeugen. Dazu kommen noch einige neue Features und eine sehr detailliert gestaltete Welt.
Version 1.0 wurde am 23. Juni 2009 veröffentlicht, Version 1.1 am 04. März 2010 und Version 1.1.1 am 27. November 2010.
Folgendes erwartet Sie auf Orcades:
- 25 innovative Quests und Rätsel.
- Spielzeit ca. ~7 Stunden.
- 4 kleinere Welten. Eine davon wurde zuvor in keiner anderen Gothic-Modifikation verwendet.
- Komplette Sprachausgabe (Länge: 1 Stunde!)
- und noch vieles mehr.

I have just released Version 1.1.1. This new version fixes a few bugs and adds an alternative Mode, where a few quests and some quest-item locations are changed.
This is the final version of Orcades and I will only release a new version if there are some critical bugs left.
German:
Ich habe soeben Version 1.1.1 hochgeladen. Diese Version fixt ein paar wenige Bugs und fügt einen alternativen Modus hinzu. Dort sind ein paar wenige Quests leicht abgeändert und außerdem sind die Fundorte mancher Questitems etwas anders.
Dies ist die finale Version von Orcades. Eine neue Version gibt es nur dann, wenn es noch kritische Bugs gibt.

The original Gothic release was also German.
I can't blame anyone who would make German add-ons and expansions for this game.
too bad its not in english. other wise i would have checked it out.
There is someone who consider to translate it into English?
