I think some of the distinct features need to pop out a bit more. Most notably:
The domes on that one ship. The rings on all of them. The four cylindrical tubes on that ship. And others need more distinctive features. Maybe features that'd be animated, like engines that change positions (Kind of like this Youtu.be) but smoothly instead of abruptly, or pumping pistons. They need some more colors, like maybe glowing features, and finally I think some of the "buildings" should look more like space stations with clear ports or entrances and be really really massive (but still move). By massive I mean like, easily double that size. Really make it feel epic and grand scale even further than the space setting is already doing. But above all, I think more movement and color = more visually appealing. But tastefully, not too much.
The problem with the big ships is that the game still uses the grid system, where 1 unit can fit one cell, if the ships are huge then they will overlap, and it won't look good, these ships were the first render, I will be downsizing them in the next days.
About the colors you are right, about animations I don't know, each frame of the animation is multiplied by the amount of facings they have (32), and I expect that to consume some memory, I dropped the idea of animating each ship to avoid crashes because of memory, might animate them after I am done with the basics, but not now.
Uhm, that sounds like an issue with ORA. There is no reason in hell for every single frame of a graphic to be loaded all at once and that's the only thing I could think of that would be causing memory issues with graphics.
Looks awesome! How long did it take you to make all these?
I guess a day or two each, modelling is fast, but brainstorming takes a bit of time.

That's about all my critique for it for now.
