Not necessarily. Lord of the Rings Online isn't bound by contract obviously as it doesn't look like the movies at all. It is really a choice made by companies to make more proffit as more people are familiar with the movies than the books.

So ehm, I was just wondering... How exactly are you introducing 10 playable races and make the entire main storyline about Frodo?
Good luck with this, it sounds like a massive project. But hey, I'd love to play it, who doesn't want to be in the midst of the helmsdeep battle for once! :D
There will be three ways to play. The Ringbearer is for hobbit males only and you play as "Frodo", though you don't have to follow his exact path. The White Council mainquest is for any race or gender and you help with the War of the Ring in many regions accross Middle Earth. The other form of play is called free roaming and is a game with no mainquest. All the events of the book take place according to the book's timeline in all of the modes of play, so you can still fight in these battles for fun in the free roaming mode.
