About MechMod MechMod is a total conversion of the Half-Life 2 engine and is based on Mecha or Mechs. We have already released a primary Alpha 1.0 version of the mod, which was based on mechs taken from the Gundam and Macross/Robotech series. Alpha 1.0 was a 'test' release which the team put together while waiting for Half-Life 2 to go public, and the Alpha is also considered as a stepping stone towards something much bigger. MechMod stresses the importance of strategy, player reflexes, and teamplay all put together. Whether you want to play fast-paced and go on the offensive, or whether you want to take it easy and concentrate on building up your defenses - MechMod has all the options available for you. The player has the ability to pick from different classes of mechs and customize them to his/her needs and desires. The customization will not only affect the aesthetics of your mech, but also the feel and usage of it. You may support your team by building structures and turrets...

The past couple of months have been very slow, and could be referred to as the "calm before the storm" in the development world of MechMod. School, university, work and World of Warcraft have all kept a lot of our team members tied down. But things should improve for the better during Summer as we plan to do most of our core work after the semester ends for many students who are on the MechMod development team.

Development in April mostly consisted of concept art, some skinning, 2D artwork (textures), and primarily programming. Jason has completed a complex parser which we will be using for storing various server-side data in plain text files. A base structure system has also been completed by grOOvy, which is used for holding data and applying it for building mecha structures ingame.

MechMod has also been recruiting quite a few team members recently. We would like to welcome aboard barde (music artist), TekniK (skinner) and Davidskiwan (concept artist) - as they are the newest additions to our team. Hope you take this mod far and have a good time along the way!

Time for a bit of media; SSJS has been working on some custom skins (bonus skins available for each preset class available via a cheat code ingame) and has also recently completed the design for our mech customization menus for the PA and TN factions (which Jason will shortly implement using VGUI2):

Keep watching our homepage and forums, we often post updates in our dev journals before the main page. Also, development might be slow until the end of May, but will take a jump start once the vacations start - so look forward to some good updates in the near future.

Also a very Happy Birthday to Pcjoe, who has just turned 18 today (8 May). Best wishes from all of the team, joe. :-)
