Very nice indeed, the sense of scale is really good also because of Tom being in the scene.

Agreed, for me this test also finally gave me a sense of the scale. These were absolutely massive engines. The crank webs alone were more than 2 meters long with the conrod length being 5,5 meters.

Description

In Mafia, it is currently impossible to implement your own animated 3D models. The only animation capabilities within the game are either linear or a constant rotation. So, an animation as complex as the ship's reciprocating engines would be nigh impossible.
Once more however, some creative use of our limited means gave us a workaround for that. And as a proof of concept, see here the first test of the engine animation, ingame.

Please keep in mind that this is a demonstration scene. The final scene will obviously be a lot more fleshed out. Also the sound will be changed in the final version.
