Why is the mail thingy tilted? Were the floors tiled or is it just a coincidence, or did you model that thing with a tilt in it? Looks nice though!

Tiled? The floor looks like wooden boards to me.

Tilted ;). Most ocean liners from the 19th century had hulls with a sheer in it; an upward curved deck as if there is some kind of slack in the hull. The bow and stern are raised a few feet to avoid water pouring over the deck while in rough seas. A higher forepeak increases the chance to keeping the deck clear.

This curve resulted in the majority of the decks being slightly tilted. This is less notable amidships and more notable in the bow area- as you can see on this screenshot. The bulkheads are perfectly vertical, but the decks are tilted, therefore most furniture is positioned under a slight tilt as well.

The ship's sheer is a detail often missed or ignored by people who model the Titanic. However, this is a very important feature to make the ship look authentic, and, if I made everything flat, I couldn't fit the orlop deck in between.
It's a painstaking detail that's most likely the #1 slowdown of the modeling process because every object needs manual positioning, but it's well worth the result.

Hahah, I love that the other guy confused tilted with tiled. My comment must have made no sense to him at all.

Thanks for the info. I thought this might be the case, kinda like how roads have a "bow", in order to let water pass to the sides. And that is also rarely done in video games, though it looks much more accurate.

That must be a pain though, having to rotate everything to an exact tilt angle, so it looks grounded in those areas. Very interesting detail, good explanation, too. You are kinda my go-to guy now, when it comes to explaining ships ^^

I'm happy to explain what I can! :)
And yes, roads are indeed never perfectly flat, yet in most games that is what you see. It's strange as I wouldn't expect a road to be that much of a hassle to make it curved. Still too much to save development time I guess. Or they just never think about it.

P.S. You did use the word tiled in "Were the floors tiled or is..." Perhaps that brought the confusion :P

Oh yes, my bad. I wanted to write tilted there, but left out a "t". I blame my Microsoft Keyboard, which needs to be hit like a hammer hits an anvil in order to produce a letter on screen.

...at least I get strong hands out of it ^^

Haha, reminds me of the days where computers where cream white. *TAK* *TAK* *TAK* *TAK* *TAK* on the keyboard.

Description

Here is a look through the No.3 cargo hatch. On the opposite end you can see the mail hold. Left of this hatch is the door into the species room. On the real ship, this door was barricaded due to it's valuable content stored inside.
