Killdrome is a multiplayer deathmatch game produced by Digital Effect & Theory in association with Jaikon. Drawing inspiration from many gaming classics such as Quake and Unreal Tournnament our goal is to deliver a unique 'no-frills' gameplay.

Story

22nd century sport is dead. The rise of video-game like sports where everyone can willingly take part regardless of their physical status now dominates the sporting world. Enter Killdrome : a massive arena sport where elite 'Dromeoids' are sent and controlled by their masters to die just like the Roman gladiators for the amusement of the crowds. The 'sport' earns it's worldwide acclaim through it's brutal combat, however, questions remain: who or what are the dromeoids? Are they a failed creation thrown out and fostered by their profiteers? Or were they once more human than their faceless persona shows?

  • Enter the Arena – Play as a 'Dromeoid', a mysterious techno-gladiator and arm yourself for combat in a no-holds-barred dance of death.
  • Diplomacy Optional – duke it out online or over LAN with upto 32 (TBC) of your best enemies.
  • Fire It Up – Heart pounding soundtrack composed in house by the team at Digital Effect & Theory sets the adrenaline levels to insane.

A Brief History

Originally concepted back in 2003, planned to be built on Ca3DE and named 'Carnage : Deathmatch Arena'. After an intensive time spent on R&D we decided to adapt KISS - 'Keep It Simple Stupid!' - and made the decision to just go out and make the simplest game possible. C:DA was put to one side and a new game was concepted : enter 'Killdrome'

Our refocused plan called for a modified version of the Quake II engine to be used as the platform for building our first game. After limited success we decided that Quake II was making things more complicated than needed. The decision to switch to Source was made late 2005 with full scale production starting in December but fell off again. Now it's 2007 when the final version of Killdrome was supposed to be released. A second attempt at production may be attempted.

Engine Switch

News

After a recent team meeting we are pleased to announce that killdrome has switched development from the Source engine to Ca3DE. The switch means that we can rediscover some of the benefits we initially chose Quake 2 Delphi for as we will be able to offer everyone a chance to play Killdrome for free. This will also help Carsten Fuchs gain publicity for his engine. With this switch made a lot of new doors have opened up for Killdrome.

This will also be the last news post concerning Killdrome or any other future projects Digital Effect & Theory undertakes. We do not feel that the majority of the community will understand or appreciate what we are trying to achieve with the Killdrome project and we do not want to peruse any negative publicity. Therefore the decision has been made to discontinue ModDB updates from now on. All other news will be posted on our website in future.

Sidenote : some may lead to believe that we have been scared away by negative comments made about our ‘enforcer’ image. Simply not true. We are not scared at releasing renders or screenshots etc that may be not up to standard as high as well established mods because our goal for Killdrome is not to create the prettiest Deathmatch experience, for us it’s about creating the best gameplay possible.
