The binary (the executable code of the game) files for Jedi Knight Galaxies v1.3.23 for Linux. This is most frequently updated part of JKG, it contains the game's logic and instructions. You will also need the assets as well to play. To install, unzip the jkgalaxies directory into Jedi Academy's GameData directory, and then install the assets. Click on RunJKGalaxies.sh to run the game (do not launch via the executable alone).
Binaries for JKG v1.3.23
This download contains the executable binaries for the Linux version of JKG. It will allow you to play the game on Ubuntu (and most debian forks of Linux), after also installing the assets. This contains the game's logic and instructions. The assets contain the game's artwork, models, music, data, etc. Both are required to play. Refer to the instructions below to install or watch this video. You will most likely also want to install the extra map packs. If you are looking for the source code, you can find it on Github. To keep JKG up to date, or try out the latest beta version, we recommend checking the Jedi Knight Galaxies webpage.
Instructions for Install
After ensuring Jedi Academy is installed, and downloading the binaries and assets for your operating system you are ready to install. These instructions are also available in the readme provided with each release.
First, navigate to your Jedi Academy install's GameData folder. The GameData folder is typically in the following location if you have Steam: 'SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\Jedi Academy\GameData'. Other types of installs will have a similar location.
Then from the downoaded zip binary, drag and drop the jkgalaxies directory (the one the readme is alongside) into Jedi Academy's GameData folder. If you have a previous installation of JKG, just replace the jkgalaxies directory with the one in the zip (if you have a really old version of JKG, you'll likely want to just install from scratch). Your directory structure should look like this when installed:
--- Jedi Academy (or Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy if on a CD game)
|
|----- GameData
| |
| |---- JKGalaxies-Client-Readme.txt
| |
| |---- jkgalaxies
| | |
| | |--- JKG
| | |
| | |--- RunJKGalaxies.bat
| | |
| | |--- RunJKGalaxies.sh
| | |
| ---etc...
|
|----- Install
Now that you have created the jkgalaxies folder and placed the binaries inside, you will need to add the assets as well. Unzip the contents of the assets zip downloaded and copy the contents (everything inside the folder that contains the readme) into the JKG folder located inside the jkgalaxies folder. In order to play the game, use the 'runjkg.sh' script in the terminal. (You will need to make sure you have the necessary dependencies (SDL, libpng, ...) to run the game). If you need a different version or want to compile it from source, please check the main download page here.
Note: A minor fix has been corrected on file and the correct version has been uploaded (previously was v1.3.22 NOT v1.3.22a).
