Here we go again: Episode 4 of the modcast has the Mod DB crew discuss some of the our choice mods we played recently followed up by some quick rants — and by quick, we mean they're all under a minute. After all that, we interview the Jailbreak! guys and prod them about their impending 0.4 mod release. Listen up folks, it's a good one!

correction: Stardock published Sins of a Solar Empire and developed Galactic Civilizations II. Sins was developed by Ironclad. Just thought I'd get that in there before anyone else.
Tsk tsk tsk Ryan. Not good enough
Just wanted to say that it was so much fun doing this interview! Me, Dogmeat, Henley and Stenchy had such a laugh recording it! Was dead funny, and blighted with technical errors and mistakes on my behalf, which incredibly they've managed to cover up completely so props to him for being a legend! Thanks for this guys!
I have almost finished it. But it is once again most enjoyable, I had wondered about when the next one was going to be. Though I was a little dissapointed that you edited out the *insert-buzzing-whistling-sound* swearing. You only replaced it with a more annoying and offenive sound on the ears, if you will.
What I did like was the little feature on the Blind Monkey Society. I will probably be stealing a quote or two for it for my essay. I had almost nothing on sound in terms of the effect on players as a part of environmental design. Other than the obvious of loud sounds can scare people, and errie sounds used with loud sounds scare the crap out of someone, and so on.
And as a final note where was the annoucment of this modcast like as was done previously. I found it odd that we did get the chance to ask questions.
Though it is another good job again, and I had to laugh at the serious tone you took with the rants. You suddenly went into posh mode. Anyway to finish I await the next one.
Forgot to add that I should really get HL2 put back onto my computer, because this sounds most enjoyable.
We found the questions lacking so we decided against the announcement this time around.
In response to the rants: Mine we pre-thought-out and pre-written, and Ryans were more off the bat with some dot points to move him along (and you can hear the difference). The problem that I had with doing these was that I struggled a bit to keep them under a minute (I think if you time them, they actually come in at between 40 and 55 seconds each at the pace I'm talking). Because I was introducing the topic AND explaining my POV, I didn't really have any room for error and tried to use the best language that I could to get the point across. Listening back, I think I was definitely talking to fast and lacked emotion and proper inflection in my voice, so its something that I'll be working on and taking on board for the next one that we record. Thanks for the feedback, nonetheless
I AM MENTIOND I AM GONNA CRY XD!
props to the guys again for a job well done, thanks for the heads up on Nehrim as it somehow managed to slide under my radar, another thing is trying to find an hour in my week to listen to it, but thanks again anyway.
we aim to please :D
Oh right Great Modcast enjoyed it alot :)
When your talking about FoF and you say how much you love the bow and arrow and how satisfying it is to kill enemies with it. I agree 100%
ahah yeah its freaking awesome what they did even i play now days i always have a good giggle over it when i nail someone from across the map!
Jailbreak sounds great! I'm glad you got onto the Moddb podcast otherwise I wouldn't have known anything more than your name.
You guys need to get your mod description out on the HL2 community sites because I don't think many people know how original the gameplay is. The specifics seem to be completely unknown to most would-be players.
Perks system sounds like it could be prone to combo-exploits and steamrolling (people who get their perks early will keep getting more and more perks quicker and quicker than the other vanilla players still waiting to get started). Also, what happens if a player late-joins a server and everyone else is tooled to the teeth with perks? 'Perks' work better in games like Battlefield and Enemy Territory because you can jump in a vehicle for free and still beat another player with maxed-out upgrades.
Although perks give you an advantage, skill is what makes the player. Through testing we have found that players that are perked up to the gil's are not impossible to destroy, balance has been taken into consideration at every step. Stealth for example requires the player to be still, while moving they stand out like a soar thumb and quickly become the target of every player on the opposing team. Alternatively Stealth can be counteracted with Awareness that will allow you to see them with ease. Finally it's worth noting that game times are short (by default), win 5 rounds and it's onto the next map where all the perks/points will be reset.
Jailbreak is all about jump in and play, you dont need to be a shooting legend, defending will garner just as much points as attacking, allowing everyone to experience the game (and perks) in different ways.
Izanagi totally nailed what I was going to say, but just to add to it... We've balanced the perks so that each perk has an opposite perk, meaning that depending on how you play and which perk you choose, the playing field is still level, and therefore the focus of winning a round is based on teamwork rather than an individuals perks or assets.
The more you work together, choose the right perk and weapon combos etc, the better you do, and the more you and your team benefit from the points.
Also, I forget if it was said or not but only 1 perk from each tier can be chosen.
just so you know you can only get one perk from each line, so i total all you can have is 3 active perks.
D'oh! You beat me to it.
i beat you a lot ryan
Not according to the timestamps!
My mistake. Pls delete so the front page isn't clogged up with worthless comments! :P
