Simplex started as a branch from Complex. It has combined features from Path To Victory as well as many other mods through a long history of R&D. This mod aims to excavate the full potential of the Homeworld 2 engine and it will simply blow your mind with incredible fun!
Oh, yeah ...
... the Territories Mod. Man, that was awesome!
You were able to contact Olmys ?!?
No, I can't. I just copy and paste this time :P
Nicely done!!
I hope that was sarcasm, as I wouldn't encourage this kind of activity.
Those shield effects were one of the few visual things Olmys created (I think... it is certainly possible someone else made them). Most of his work was in programming and working with back-end files.
Well, but remember that the ability to contact the creator actually doesn't make a difference here. As he can reach me about my frigates in this shot ...and perfectly ignore my "don't".
Man I really wish Olmys didn't dissapear from the surface of the Earth, there's no way to contact him for years. He was truly one of the best.
OH, I thought the green spheres were just part of the HW2 program...
If that is the case I agree the creator must be contacted for permission.
Then again if he can't be contacted, I just don't know..
I emailed Olmys a few days ago about one of his mods and I still have not heard from him..
My first PM on moddb was to Olmys, in 8th of november 2009, and still haven't heard from him...
It would be a real shame to never see his creations come alive in other maps only because he is not available to give permission. I would say under these circumstances as long as the readme includes credits for his original scripting it would be ok. If Olmys becomes available and does not agree the maps could always be removed from the mod. That's what I would do.. but this is not my mod..
My opinion is a modder forfeits their entitlement to courteous displays when s/he has become inactive in all relevant communities. As BigFoot said, it would be a shame to see work not continued because courtesy is assumed for someone who may no longer care - or even be alive. Mod material is not, and for HW2, cannot be copywrited by a modder. Depending on THQ's policies, it's entirely possible they own all mod work, or may even view modding in a negative way.
In any case, seeing silicon is going to implement the meat of the Territories mod, instead of just this visual effect, I'm not going to condemn him for acting without recieving contact from Olmys.
I wanted to implement the whole Battle Arena for ages (ages being a literal term in this case). Keep aside it's surely another time sink, you have no objections to that whatsoever. Hmm.
