Action packed challenging party play in D&D fashion!

Higher Ground is a high-powered hack-and-slash persistent world that pushes the envelope of what servers, characters, and players are capable of on a legendary scale of adventure spanning 60 levels (for now) and several planes. Is this the adventure for you?

Do you enjoy...

  • Not having to pay to play a game online?
  • Hack-and-slash gameplay, where you can pay as much or as little attention to the underlying story as you care for?
  • An active and helpful community of players and developers to make your game experience the best it can be?
  • A well-balanced and detailed game world to escape into?
  • Some of the most exotic locales in Forgotten Realms lore such as the Nine Hells, the Abyss, Elysium, and the Far Realm, along with old mainstays of Toril and the Underdark?
  • Being challenged, in both the creation of your character and the manner in which you play it, to risk your characters' lives (in the case of the Hardcore game mode, quite literally) against the deadliest foes the multiverse has to offer?
  • Having some say in how the world, in which you spend countless hours playing, develops and evolves through your feedback and suggestions?

Then you should see what Higher Ground has to offer!

Requirements to play on Higher Ground:

  • Neverwinter Nights with Shadows of Undrentide and Hordes of the Underdark expansions, patched to v1.69
  • Community Expansion Pack v2.3c

Instructions for obtaining both of the above can be found in the Installation Guide.

This is such a pure classic that it is still being very actively played; the Higher Ground is still going strong.

If own, or are thinking about buying Neverwinter Nights 1, I would strongly suggest trying Higher Ground Persistent world.

The quality and sheer scope of the campaign is breathtaking.

Most importantly it is still well populated 24/7

Has a great community

And it’s free if you own the game or $10 if you buy it from

I just love hg and if you try it you will too.

Higher Ground is the stuff you dreamed of playing pen and paper D&D.

Battle through the 9 layers of Hell to face Asmodeus in a confrontation that will give you butterflies in your stomach every time you enter his throne room.

Face the demon princes of the Abyss!

Lose your self in space and time with the strange domain of the Aboleths or take a trip to Elysium and get your evil on by taking down Pelor.

Pick a critter from the Monster Manual and you can find probably find it recreated here.

Literally years of depth and content and a hugely friendly community.
