Heroes of the West is a Western Front mod for the WWII game Red Orchestra 2. The United States Army and the British Commonwealth against Nazi Germany..
Caen Outskirts a map originally made by Commander Shepard has been Updated by nymets. Re-balancing the map and fixing a few things like The halftrack can now smash through the wooden walls. The grass isn't fixed as that's controlled in the actual mod itself so will be changed then.
Full patch notes below.
So are there Commonwealth forces implemented yet or is this USA attacking Germans? If it is USA, will it eventually be updated to Commonwealth? Just wondering.
Yeah we're planning on swapping it around eventually. If you look at commander shepards test screenshots you can see the british running around on this map.
Swastikas? I hate censorship.
Perfect. That will be amazing. Also, you know I have to inquire about the development of a D-Day landing map? (Omaha or Sword would be the best I feel, or even Pointe Du Hoc)
Forums.tripwireinteractive.com That's happening. No clue how balanced it will be lol. 300m no cover is a long way. But we even have Tom Hanks in this mod especially for it. We might even make it so when you shoot a tank with your M1911 a random plane comes out of nowhere to destroy it.
just do what the Americans did in real life call in a Navy Destroyer "specifically the USS Frankford DD-497" close to shore and have it light the krout bunkers up with its 5in guns
Yeah like 2 hours after the landings started lol. It used the one tank that had made it to shore and hadn't been blown up as a sort of spotter. The tank which was immobilised on the beach was much closer and could see targets. The ships gunners would watch where the tank fired then fired a whole salvo from the Frankford at the same place.
The ships were scared of hitting their own men and scared of being hit by coastal guns. Turns out the coastal guns didn't exist. But the ships captains like the one on the frankford disobeyed orders and went in close to not hit their own men. Before they had heard the news that there were no guns pointed at them. They went in after they had heard that those on the beach were starting to have some minor success. They were considering evacuating those on the beach and landing somewhere else before that. The naval barrages really turned the tide. After the war one captain of one ship said he wouldn't mind even if he had beached his ship. "Woulda been a more stable firing platform anyway".
Only 2 tanks made it ashore out of the many that were launched at omaha. The rest sunk. The 2 that made it were pretty much instantly hit by the 88s. One was destroyed the other was immobilised and then the 88 gunners fired on the infantry after they had hit both tanks even though one was still operational. The tank was firing back but the 88s didn't seem to fire at it again. Nor did any other gun emplacement.
Lol, that would work perfectly. And I would add some craters and hedgehog tank traps and such to add cover. Also probably shorten the beach a bit to make it easier. If anything, base it on the MOWAS D-Day mission with a short beach followed by several trench systems in the fields and finally the main artillery bunker as the final line. Just an idea
