A Halo mod for the critically acclaimed Sins of a Solar Empire, that aims to capture the fast paced intensity of the Halo series.
We're going to be revamping our UNSC defensive network for the next big release. No hard details at this time, but Earth-style ODPs will be more common but less powerful defensive structures while the Reach-style SMACs will be limited in number and significantly more powerful.
Awesome, look forward to seeing this in game.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't the Earth based ODPs the same as Reach's? Johnson himself said in Halo 2 that they could put a round clean through a Covenant capital ship.
I can't for the life of me find an image showing the SMACs at Reach looking any different.
So it's probably going to be more fanon stuff.
"Fanon"? Sorry, what do you mean by that?
Not "canon", as in it's not actually something thats present in the lore. Stuff they just sort of make up for the mod.
If you ask me theres a bit more than there needs to be in this mod.
Halo fleet battles Macs... In lore established through canon fodders and such these are the powerful ODPs used at reach, the ones with ground based reactors. The ones at Earth were lighter macs with onboard reactors but they were vastly more numerous, we saw them in H2. Also a round clean through a covenant ship doesnt mean through an assault carrier. And fanon is usually to fill spots where lore will break the game or doesnt fill a complete roster.
TheHippie,
Had you been paying attention to Halo ship stuff in the last year+ you'd know about Halo: Fleet Battles, the tabletop game similar to Warhammer 40K, but in space, with Halo ships. The following links will assist you in your error.

Not sure about fleet battles, but halo wiki says there is only one kind of ODP. These were the platforms that used the ground side power plants. Both were used at Earth and Reach. Earth just has more of them. 300 to 20.
We go by the official and latest lore, which says that the 300 Earth based SMACS were weaker and had on board reactors whereas the 20 Reach SMACS were very powerful with ground based reactors. I can assure you that our information and sources are sound.
Actually the Reach ones do have an official appearance, they're shown in Halo Legends Origins Part II.
EDIT: Ah I see where you get the design now. Fleet Battles retconned the old Reach design.
I read the books saying that both types used ground based reactors. Given the arguments being made here, it appears to me that there has been a disconnect between the works of both developers of each products' lore, but that is an assumption based on mere observation of the comments I've read.
I see what you did there
It's so pretty!!!
So wait... I'm confused. Are you suggesting that Cairo Station was not a SMAC? And it was simply an "ODP"?
Saying SMAC for both of them would get repetitive, saying the MK of each would as well. An ODP is still a SMAC, For future reference ODP = Earth SMAC, Smac = Reach SHMAC.
Say hello to my little friend!!!
All on the floor, SMAC that give me some more, SMAC that ohohohohhh
I like it! :)
Sweet
